This should send the DOW down another 2000 points tomorrow.
We’ll need some pharmas for the bloodbath in the market coming tomorrow.
Doubting Thomas thread. Man the hell up you wussies. 47 is doing what needs to be done. You’re not the President! This IS our war.
I admit, this concerns me some. I’m a pharmacy tech, and very few drugs we dispense are made here. I’m also a transplant recipient and am on tons of meds.
We’ll see what happens...
Everything seems to be on the table... except offshored IT work. Why aren’t we putting huge tariffs on that?
They were sold and dismantled. We bought and many of them. Tax incentives work tariffs don’t.
I have not seen anything on services in general. In some cases, we run trade surpluses on services to countries with whom we run trade deficits on goods. In fact, we run a surplus on services in general - I’d have to look it up for a precise figure, but it was well over +$200 billion last year. This seems pretty amazing given the stereotypical “customer service call centers”...
The majority of Drugs should be made here. No reason it can’t happen.
Why are we allowing the enemy to sell drugs? They’re probably filled with lead and chalk
“I think Trump means add a federal surcharge on shipments of American drugs to cheapskate foreign countries”
Do “American drugs” even exist? I know we have the Big Pharma R&D here (I used to work for one). But aren’t most of them manufactured in China, etc.?
I know that there is a lot of playing fast and loose with drugs, which creates an unfair situation for us.
One expensive drug I take was supposed to go generic in January 2023. (My CO-PAY is more than $2,000/year.) It was HAPPENING so seriously that Humana had already moved my prescription to the generic. A couple days before the effective date, Pfizer pulled it.
The thing is, foreign countries have been getting the generic for years.
I was putting a string of Christmas lights on the tree. I glanced at the little paper that came with it. “WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER HANDLING. PRODUCT CONTAINS LEAD.”
I agree!
I'm not at all familiar with tariff policy on pharmaceuticals, except that many of these products are either tariff-free or subject to very low tariffs under a WHO agreement dating back to the 1990s.
I'm not sure if this policy can be justified in the long run, if it has resulted in the large-scale migration of pharmaceutical production out of the U.S. It will be interesting to see how this plays out among Freepers -- who tend to be on the older side and more exposed to price hikes in these types of products.
As far as the Canadian election goes, I'd venture to guess that the Trump mindset is completely different than what you'd expect. He's probably not impressed with what we have seen as "conservative" leadership up there. The last two conservative PMs of note have been Stephen Harper and Brian Mulroney -- both of whom would be considered globalist/Bush clowns by many here in the U.S.
Expect democrats to SCREAM blood murder, part of the deal they made to get Obamacare into law was that they would not negotiate with Pharma or attack them on prices....
Prepare for the howls.
My concerns, too. Where is our Tacrolimus made? I pay nothing for it now. Also I get an Entyvio infusion every 8 weeks, which I also pay nothing for. Medicare and my supplemental pay for both. Our insurance increases are already stretching us to the breaking point….
