Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated an investigation into WK Kellogg for allegedly misleading consumers by advertising their cereals as “healthy” while containing artificial colorings linked to health issues. The probe focuses on popular products such as Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Frosted Flakes, and Rice Krispies.

The investigation stems from concerns that Kellogg’s marketing practices may violate Texas consumer protection laws. Notably, the company has removed these artificial dyes from their products in Canada and Europe, but they remain in U.S. versions.

“Artificial food colorings have been shown to have disastrous impacts on health, and in no world should foods that include these dyes be advertised as ‘healthy,'” Attorney General Ken Paxton explained.

The investigation highlights potential health risks associated with petroleum-based artificial food colorings, including hyperactivity, obesity, autoimmune diseases, endocrine-related problems, and cancer. Paxton emphasized the need for accountability from companies making misleading claims about their products’ health benefits.

I sold these products in the 1980’s . They are heavily regulated and tested. I saw no tests that Artificial food colors lead to obesity or cancer. They were tested for these. Obesity? You use low amounts as they are expensive and are strong enough to impart color at low levels. Petroleum based? So are all of your pharma products.

Food colorants? Get poisoned and not even taste it! But the fruit loops sure look fresh and tasty!

No poison. They have been tested and used at low levels. Other ingredients should cause you concern.

If I had seen that claim as a kid, I would not have eaten them. As late as the 1960s it was widely thought if you put vitamins in products, that would be enough to make it healthy. Even the sugar was promoted as a source of "energy", as in "Quisp . . . for Qwazy Energy". Rice Krispies aren't horrible. Rice, Sugar, Salt, Malt, Vitamins". Not all that much sugar unless little Johnny adds more (he will). It also isn't very filling. Nothing wrong with the whole milk that should be poured on it.

No poison, they’ve been tested and are used in low levels?

Why the concern regarding low level use?

They have been tested and used at low levels.

Looks like a statement with no question mark.

Sugar addiction is endemic these days. I witnessed a grown male human put 7 sugar packets and 5 creamers in a 10 oz cup of coffee.

I’ll stick with black coffee and rare steaks thank you
