The grand new American reawakening has come, Trump announced with his inaugural ‘Day of Liberation’—a Declaration of Economic Independence: [pic]
Experts the world over are now butting heads over what this epochal ‘reciprocal tariffs’ package will mean for the world economy.
Firstly, it must be said that the misnomered program is apparently not one of ‘reciprocal’ tariffs at all, but rather tariffs doing the job of balancing ‘unequal’ trade deficits between the US and other countries. As most know by now, Trump’s team apparently used a simple equation for determining the tariff rate:
Flexport's team was able to reverse engineer the formula the Administration used to generate the "reciprocal tariffs." It's quite simple, they took the trade deficit the US has with each country and divided it by our imports from that country. The chart below shows the predictions of this formula plotted against the actual new tariff rates.
Not surprisingly there was an early bloodbath in the markets, with the US dollar dramatically falling against major currencies:
The US dollar fell against major global currencies, including the euro, Japanese yen, Swiss franc, British pound and Russian ruble. However, it strengthened against the Chinese yuan. The decline against the euro is the largest in the last 10 years, over 2%.

I voted for Trump 3 times because I’m not going to vote for a disabled vegetable but Trump says a lot of things and some of those things either happen or they don’t. I wish he would focus on getting rid of the 75 million+ illegals and their families. Then, we honestly could have a golden age. Without that, nothing matters because in a few years they will breed to 199 million and on and on. Any functional society + millions of Aztec Indians = failure. It doesn’t work in mexico and it can’t work here either. it’s too big of a stone around our necks.
Good God. How many Concern karens are on this forum?
In the press conference and subsequent interviews the Trump Admin was talking about multiple trade restrictions by other countries that were factored into the new tariffs such as administrative barriers to entry, unfair, rules, teariffs, and other anti-competitive practices. These tariffs are all just a starting point and they are going into effect this week to incentivize negotiations. Every country was invited to change their behavior and to negotiate.
You have to start somewhere and slapping tariffs on these the foreign moochers up front without negotiations will prompt them to engage.
Have you listened to Scott Adam’s?
No, got a link?
A name and resume would be nice, but he seems to refrain from telling who he is, though telling what he thinks seems a regular thing. His "Simplicius's Garden of Knowledge" has a sister, "Dark Futura."
The poll he is running on the blog -- bottom of the page -- shows 1,795 participants. Not a huge sample, but the poll runs two more days.

I consider him a very uneven blogger. Sometimes I’m very impressed with his work, at other times he seems almost childish in believing simply what he wants to believe.
Thanks; I rarely do video but I have some time now so I’ll give it a listen.
