or collect donations that can be written off some how for those who donate?

educate the county residents on ALL the county services provided and actual costs to run them, trim waste so residents see it’s honest needs.

Then some how make it an honor to support the county services, and businesses or wealthy may want to contribute (they like attention etc), lessening or eliminating the need for those truly financially unable or those who who don’t care to support.

Sure it’s “unfair” but so is life.

Tort reform is in the hands of the legislature. Gov can’t do a thing.

Your ambulance chaser buddies are the reason casualty insurance is skyrocketing.

Every other tv commercial on tv is from an ambulance chaser....

So why does the state of Florida MANDATES auto insurance so insurance companies can rip off drivers.

Home insurance is a better thing to address, too. I moved here in 2021. My annual payment was $2200 in 01/2022, but it was $3970 for 01/2025.

FL allows piggyback county sales taxes. The counties could increase those.

I blame Governor DeSantis for rip-off of Florida homeowners and car drivers by insurance companies. Those outfits should be REGULATED same as electric power companies, natural gas companies and other utility companies. Governor has the power to change this. But DeSantis probably happy with campaign contributions by insurance companies.

You’re right - I totally messed up on this one... And I should know better - I write out my checks to the County Tax Collector every year...

Property taxes are paid to the state. DeSantis has some control over that issue.
**************
I believe property taxes in Florida are paid to the county in which a home is located. Tax appraisers are elected in county elections, and levy the millage rate passed by the local school boards and county commissions.

There is no state income tax per Florida’s constitution.

It’s nice that the appraisal value of a home can only increase by 3% each year (per the constitution) and a home with a homestead exemption has a $50,000 discount on the appraised value for tax purposes.

It is also nice that under the provisions of a recently passed state constitutional amendment; the current homestead exemption will be adjusted for inflation in the future.

There are a few other exemptions for property taxes bases upon military service, age, and income.

State government in Florida is funded by a state sales tax. Florida’s school district funding is funded by county property taxes and a percentage of the state sales tax, with rural and poor counties receiving a higher percentage of state sales tax funding than large urban districts.

So, I’m wondering how the governor’s proposal will affect county, and city funding.

Also, the GOP candidate for my district (FL-01) in Congress is Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s CFO, who presided over these skyrocketing insurance prices. His PAC took millions in donations from insurance companies. Even though he’s probably a better candidate than the Communist, he will always be suspect in my eyes.

You’re right. I don’t know what I was thinking. I make out a check to the County Tax Collector every year - two checks before I sold my second home. Definitely not to the State of Florida. Nice to hear homestead exemption will be adjusted for inflation. Anyhow thanks for the correction and new information. What’s your take on DeSantis’ newest position?
