Mexico is buying time to check with their CCP/Cartel masters on what they should do next.

Perhaps Canada can appease the U.S., and reduce the burden on U.S. taxpayers by agreeing to increase the Canadian defense budget.

For one thing, Canadians need to rebuild their Navy. A second thing they can do is to agree to buy from the U.S. another 20 or 30 F35s.

Today Canada has money for socialized medicine (”free” everything) but say they cannot afford to defend their shipping lanes.

That's because they offload their defense costs to the American military umbrella. It's time for Canada to re-prioritize their spending and help the U.S. defend North America.

Do we really trust the Mexican Army to do what they’re supposed to?

IIRC, they are as influence corrupted by the cartels as any other branch of their government.

Instead of F35-Lightning, they should get a few AC-130 gunships. Would make “interdiction” of drug smugglers
and for a cheap song. Maybe a decent armed helo or three, too.

The Mexican army fought some bloody battles with the cartel in recent times. I would imagine they are hesitant to put themselves front and center in the cartel's gunsights on the border without the guarantee of US support. However, I'm sure they would get that support just by asking.
