In a significant escalation of trade tensions, President Donald Trump has imposed crushing new tariffs on imports from China, Canada, and Mexico, citing concerns over the influx of deadly fentanyl into the United States.

The administration announced a 10% tariff on Chinese goods and a 25% tariff on products from Canada and Mexico. These measures are set to take effect on February 4, 2025.

are they going to unleash another bioweapon to kill even more millions of people? China can literally go up in smoke as far as I’m concerned. Tane away their favored nation status. To hell with them.

How much of the US fentanyl problem actually comes from Canada?

Possibly this:

China is a major supplier of consumer goods and electronics. A higher tariff could lead to price increases that would hurt American consumers more directly.

A 10% tariff might be intended as a warning shot, leaving room to escalate if China does not comply with U.S. demands on trade practices, intellectual property, or market access.

Many U.S. industries rely heavily on Chinese manufacturing, and a sudden 25% tariff could disrupt supply chains, leading to shortages and economic instability.

Fentanyl is America’s problem. President Trump is in the process of doing away with that problem. Just wait and see, the solution to this problem is exposing our nation’s enemies foreign and domestic.

Isn’t there something about protecting the USA from enemies in the oaths of office that our elected officials swear to?

“How much of the US fentanyl problem actually comes from Canada?”

A more appropriate question is how much of the US Fentanyl problem is facilitated by Canada. It’s not like Canada doesn’t operate outside of their borders.

I think it’s on top of the existing tariffs

Okay, I’d take an answer to your rephrasing.

That is not a response that’s going to be acceptable in Washington, DC.

Beijing needs to try harder and succeed in cutting off the precursors and confiscating the profits.

Trump is bull-headed. Congress knows Chinese powers of investigation are not limited.

According to Forbes, less than 1% comes from Canada.

It’s more likely to reach us via Canada. My guess is that most of what we get isn’t made there. Canada’s ports...particularly Vancouver...are wide open to smuggling. Canadian officials have even admitted that their ports aren’t nearly as secure as are our ports. And it’s common knowledge that the US/Canadian border is a joke when it comes to security. So it would make sense for Red China to ship it to Vancouver and the rest is a piece of cake.

Zero. It comes from the Americans who make the choice to use the stuff.

But it’s really our side that is responsible for keeping things from coming in.

The granddaughter of Nancy Reagan?

She was always obviously correct IMO.

But even today, where’s the messaging about all the habits and substances that can lead to deadly addictions?

Try harder to cut it off? It is clearly part of their warfare strategy against us.

Wal-Mart, and probably all the stores, are outlets for Chinese products. They have cheap forced labor, and Americans buy it. We are they golden goose. They are the source of the money America barrows to give to everyone else. 50 million for rubbers, indeed.

Only when mandatory death penalty is given out for drug dealers will this problem slow down. AND that death penalty is carried out the day they are caught either transporting or selling drugs.
