President Donald J. Trump says he is considering imposing tariffs on goods imported from the European Union. The move would mark a significant escalation in his government’s efforts to end unfair trade imbalances around the globe.
“Am I going to impose tariffs on the European Union?” Trump posited during a press event in the Oval Office while signing a new series of executive orders. He continued: “Do you want a truthful answer or do you want me to give you a political answer?”
“Absolutely,” he said regarding the possible foreign trade measures, adding: “The European Union has treated us so terribly.
”The White House has not offered any further details as to what form the tariffs may take.
Doesn’t congress have to pass a bill before tariffs can be imposed?
You sound upset. The answer is no. Congress passed the law a long time ago giving the President power to unilaterally impose tariffs on countries that don't trade fairly with the United States. Trump can do this and do it easily. 😎
Not upset, just didn’t know.
Yet China gets a pass.
This guy has been screwed over anf he is back, no hold barred, ready to bring justice where there has been injustice. Not revenge...this is justice.
51 signers sought to prevent his election treasonously, folks wrote books with lies to interfere with an election process....justice is they lose their jobs, their access to truth and security and lobbying jobs.
When one is pissed but calm, one gets a singular clarity and ruthlrss efficiency, a blessing from God for being calm and absolutely determined.
EU is so screwed.
Just put the same tariffs on them that they put on us.
Do they actually buy anything from us?
10% on China to start.
10% on China to start.
Nobody benefits from a trade war. The resulting depression would be blamed on Trump.
An already economically reeling Germany is screwed. Mercedes, Volkswagen, Beemer. Good luck in China picking up the slack for them. The Chinese will cut their efforts there to the quick and stymie their efforts to compete against Chinese auto producers
Toyota is the second largest auto producer in the US with over 70% of the cars sold here assembled here. They are not tariffed on their production here. Germany,on the other hand, only assembles 28% of their cars sold here in the US.They will be tariffed on exports to the US. What do you think will happen? Germany will be supplanted by US producers who are not tariffed. Either Germany moves more production to the US or Toyota and US car manufacturers increase production here to replace Germany’s dwindling share of the market. Americans will not pay more for cars so long as it is not a foreign produced German car. Trump is in the driver’s seat on this one. Germany will fold and announce opening assembly plants in the US
No! Full stop.
