The Wall Street Journal revealed that GOP Senator Thom Tillis was behind helping Pete Hegseth’s former sister-in-law get her 11th hour affidavit with allegations of abuse to Senators before the confirmation vote.
As previously reported, Senators received an 11th hour affidavit with spousal abuse allegations against Trump’s Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth ahead of his confirmation vote.
An affidavit from Hegseth’s former sister-in-law, Danielle Hegseth, alleging “instances of abuse” and “mistreatment of a former spouse” involving Hegseth’s second wife, Samantha Hegseth, was submitted to senators.
Samantha Hegseth responded to the allegations via email, according to NBC News: “First and foremost, I have not and will not comment on my marriage to Pete Hegseth. I do not have representatives speaking on my behalf, nor have I ever asked anyone to share or speak about the details of my marriage on my behalf, whether it be a reporter, a committee member, a transition team member, etc.”
Samantha Hegseth added, “I do not believe your information to be accurate, and I have cc’d my lawyer.”
“There was no physical abuse in my marriage. This is the only further statement I will make to you, I have let you know that I am not speaking and will not speak on my marriage to Pete. Please respect this decision.”
The Walls Street Journal reported that Tillis told Danielle Hegseth that her sworn statement alleging abuse could get three Senators to flip and vote against Hegseth: His own, Murkowski, and Collins!
However, a few days later, it was reported by Fox News that the three Senators who may defect because of Danielle Hegseth’s affidavit included Mitch McConnell (KY), Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Susan Collins (ME).
The drama continued last Friday evening as the Senate convened for a late night vote to confirm Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary.
The Wall Street Journal reported late Friday that Senator Thom Tillis who previously said he would vote ‘yes’ on confirming Hegseth, was still undecided. A ‘no’ vote from Tillis could sink Hegseth’s nomination if McConnell, Murkowski and Collins all vote no.
Tillis ended up voting “yes” to confirm Hegseth on Friday – Murkowski, Collins and McConnell all voted no so Vice President JD Vance had to come in with the tie-breaker.
However, Tillis raised eyebrows after The Wall Street Journal reported he was creating chaos behind the scenes.
Now we know why.
Sneaky Tillis was working behind the scenes to sabotage Pete Hegseth by encouraging Danielle Hegseth to submit her 11th hour affidavit with allegations of abuse.
The Wall Street Journal reported:
A key witness in the contentious Senate confirmation of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was assured by Sen. Thom Tillis (R., N.C.) that her sworn statement would carry weight in last week’s vote and could persuade Republican senators to oppose the nominee, according to people familiar with the events.
Tillis personally assured Danielle Hegseth in a call on Jan. 19, witnessed by two other people, that if she signed the statement testifying that she believed her former brother-in-law Pete Hegseth has an alcohol-abuse problem and was abusive to his second wife, it would carry weight, and potentially move three votes—his own, along with the votes of Sens. Susan Collins (R., Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R., Alaska), those people said.
A force to be reckoned with. We’ve seen snippets. I would love to see the whold sledge being wielded.
Danielle Hegseth married Pete Hegseth’s brother. That woman has a hatred for the Hegseth family.
We in North Carolina don’t need any further evidence to show how much Thom Tillis sucks. We have GOT to primary and remove him next year.
Renee Elmers Congressional District included Ft. Bragg.
This Danielle broad should be sued for defamation and possibly face criminal charges for interfering with “official proceedings.”
Absolutely!
YES!!
What so difficult to understand. The woman married Pete’s bro, divorced him and kept her married name.
Tillis is a snake.
“Wonder who’s behind the Caroline Kennedy BS?”
Not sure who’s behind it, but I wonder who authored her statement — probably the same people who put her up to it. When I heard her read it, I figured there’s no way she wrote it herself. Aside from the fact that she was stumbling over the words, she’s just not smart enough to concoct an coherent statement.
I’d guess Schumer and Schiff are the guilty parties.
With friends like this Judas who needs enemies!
Trump should quietly open an investigation into McConnell’s wife Elaine Chao and her family connections to the Chicoms. Mitch can get on board or lawyer up.
Again, why anyone is surprised by Republicans trying to undermine Trump is beyond me.
They let the 2020 steal happen folks.
The establishment is the establishment, the letter beside their name makes no difference.
Again, why anyone is surprised by Republicans trying to undermine Trump is beyond me.
Because Trump took the party away from them, and with it, their cash cow.
She was married to Pete’s brother.
Oh yeah! I remember that. She just came across as stupid
