Being a really accomplished computer professional is no more difficult or notable than being an excellent building contractor or dentist. The “whiz kid” myth is pure media created bullshit. The “whiz kid” from India, even more so. Information technology really is not that complicated. It is just another way to sell advertising. They hire Indians so a handful of lucky tech people can have a 200 foot yacht rather than a 100 foot one.
They wont tell you, I just did.
There are certainly “whiz Kids”, and that goes for most professions. But you’re right. The average, accomplished professional in computers and other tech fields is simply someone of above average intelligence who dedicates himself to being good at what he does.
I think you are mainly right. The average software programmer or IT network technician is certainly nothing to place on a pedestal. Like with all technical disciplines, the top end is what I respect.
” Information technology really is not that complicated.”
IT is actually VERY COMPLICATED at the highest levels.
Dummies need not aspire to achieve there.
125 IQ is required to start. 140 to excel.
That said, we have plenty of those right here in the US.
But only fools underestimate what it takes.
