Former Congressman Matt Gaetz threatened to rejoin Congress, expose lawmakers’ “Me Too” settlements paid out using taxpayer funds – and then resign from Congress.
Matt Gaetz floated the idea after the House Ethics Committee secretly voted to release a ‘damaging’ lawfare report on him.
Gaetz resigned from Congress last month after President Trump nominated him as US Attorney General.
The House Ethics Committee was going to release a “damaging” report on Matt Gaetz last month, but because he resigned from Congress, the committee lost jurisdiction.
Matt Gaetz threatened to air out his colleagues’ dirty laundry and expose every #MeToo settlement paid using public funds after the House Ethics Panel reversed course and voted to release the lawfare report.
Gaetz resigned from the 118th Congress but he was elected to the 119th Congress so he said he could get sworn in, do some damage and then resign:
Someone suggested the following plan to me:
1. Show up 1/3/2025 to congress
2. Participate in Speaker election (I was elected to the 119th Congress, after all…)
3. Take the oath
4. File a privileged motion to expose every “me too” settlement paid using public funds (even of former members)
5. Resign and start my @OANN program at 9pm EST on January 6, 2025.

go ahead and do it, no need to announce it.
There are many unsavory deals, payoffs and quid proquo occurring continuouslly in Congress. Are you suggesting that anyone who believes that, based on circumstances, to reveal some of these is to be excoriated for not revealing them sooner?
Are you saying unsavory deals, payoffs and quid pro quo should be allowed to happen without it being called out?
What kind of governance does that leave behind? What we now have?
Exactly what we have now. Think of the concerted pushback during Trump’s first term. It will take a team effort to clear the stables. An effort that I believe Gaetz is part of.
Be safe and Merry Christmas if we don't cross paths before then.
And to you as well!
How is every member’s integrity imputed if somebody else had hush money paid for them?
In Gaetz’s case the secrecy of the hush money payments is hiding the fact that he was treated differently for sheer defamation and political purposes. For who else would that be true?
With Trump and Kash coming in there is the genuine threat that wrongdoer will be exposed. That makes this much more pointed than just doing business as usual, which is exactly what it was when DeSantis made the proposal and would be the same if anybody else did it either before, or now.
Impugned. Darn auto correct.
You've moved from impugned to imputed.
In Gaetz’s case the secrecy of the hush money payments is hiding the fact that he was treated differently for sheer defamation and political purposes. For who else would that be true?
Now you're trying to establish facts as evidence to which you can't know to be true. Do you know for a fact the Ethics Committee is taking their action for sheer defamation and political purposes or is that an assumption on your part?
Tricky answer when they say everything is above board.
Because they're members of the same body. If one is guilty anonymously they're ALL guilty publicly.
I'm surprised you had to even ask.
Parents to ten teens: Who broke the lamp?
Silence from teens.
Parents: You will all bear the punishment, both for breaking it and for not saying who did break it.
This is as much of a parlor trick as DeSantis' submitting a bill he knew would die in committee.
If the people who got hush money paid are all yes-men to the Deep State the reason for Gaetz being singled out for unlawful exposure would be evident.
Which is why he has standing to demand those records be disclosed. Legal situations aren’t like mom and dad. In legal situations somebody wronged with particularized harm has standing AND the right to discovery. Goetz has that because they are specifically trying to slander him. Nobody else suffers particularized harm.
He can’t do squat if he isn’t in office.
His recourse then, if that's the case, is the courts.
BTW, a written report would be libel.
That’s why the plan would be for him to be in office long enough to do what must be done
He doesn’t even know if he will, or can, be seated!
Can people file individual lawsuits against a House committee? Courts stay out of cases where there is supposed to be a political remedy.
That’s why the Deep State hides behind govt people. It bypasses due process and leaves victims with no way to exonerate themselves. That is what is so bad about these banana republic tactics. It HAS to stop.
Why couldn’t he be seated? He was elected to that seat. He only resigned from the old seat.
A special election has already been scheduled.
