Matt Gaetz Threatens to Rejoin Congress, Reveal Lawmakers’ #MeToo Settlements After Ethics Committee Votes to Release Lawfare Report

Former Congressman Matt Gaetz threatened to rejoin Congress, expose lawmakers’ “Me Too” settlements paid out using taxpayer funds – and then resign from Congress.

Matt Gaetz floated the idea after the House Ethics Committee secretly voted to release a ‘damaging’ lawfare report on him.

Gaetz resigned from Congress last month after President Trump nominated him as US Attorney General.

The House Ethics Committee was going to release a “damaging” report on Matt Gaetz last month, but because he resigned from Congress, the committee lost jurisdiction.

Matt Gaetz threatened to air out his colleagues’ dirty laundry and expose every #MeToo settlement paid using public funds after the House Ethics Panel reversed course and voted to release the lawfare report.

Gaetz resigned from the 118th Congress but he was elected to the 119th Congress so he said he could get sworn in, do some damage and then resign:

Someone suggested the following plan to me:

1. Show up 1/3/2025 to congress

2. Participate in Speaker election (I was elected to the 119th Congress, after all…)

3. Take the oath

4. File a privileged motion to expose every “me too” settlement paid using public funds (even of former members)

5. Resign and start my @OANN program at 9pm EST on January 6, 2025.

Thank you for your post. I agree completely. For too long the political class has operated corruptly and by keeping the public in the dark. I hope Matt Gaetz does exactly as he has outlined. The American public needs to know where the bodies are buried. Sunlight - the best disinfectant.

Yes, I’m talking to myself. lol

The point of exposing who has benefitted from the hush money slush fund is to expose how Congress uses these libelous tactics to target specific individuals - the ones who threaten the Deep State. Some people who commit sexual crimes or ethics violations get their accusers paid off; some get investigations and leaks to leave the person with no opportunity to legally present evidence and defend him/herself. What decides who gets coddled and who gets libeled? Let’s see the names, and maybe it will become clear...

I think that is what Gaetz is getting at. And it’s a point that should have been made long, long ago.

When Kathy Hochul assured NY investors that they didn’t need to worry about the charges against Trump because Trump was the only one who would ever be charged in that way... she just put a BANANA REPUBLIC sticker all over herself and the entire state of New York. That is the most blatantly un-American thing that anybody could do. The only reason she could feel comfortable doing that is because she knows that BANANA REPUBLIC people get a free pass; it is only the honest people genuinely fighting for the rule of law who get targeted.

That is Gaetz’s point. And we are way overdue to deal with it and get rid of the banana republic crap that’s all over.

We'll see. We can ping each other as things develop.

I actually wonder if the “somebody” who suggested this plan to Gaetz was Donald Trump, and if he suggested it when they were working out whether Gaetz should be nominated for the AG position. I think Trump knows how to dangle a worm in front of a fish, and the hatred of Gaetz made him the perfect bait, which the Deep State swallowed hook, line, and sinker. A lot of us wondered what the end game was, in nominating Gaetz when it seemed unlikely that he could be confirmed. I think we might know now. 4D chess. It’s the only way to catch and stop these lawless bastards.

I also wonder if this was part of the “secret” that Trump said he had that would help Speaker Johnson, that wouldn’t be revealed until after the election. I suspect that there are a bunch of dem Reps who might be leaving the House, putting Johnson in a position with the compromised folks gone and the power of the Deep State decimated.

I guess we’ll see, but I’m liking the chance to even think such happy thoughts as a real possibility.

You make my point for me. There are MULTIPLE people without Ethics Committee conflicts who could have exposed this, including Matt, and NONE OF THEM have stepped forward to end this.
In 2017 DeSantis even presented a bill making it law that names were to be named and it never went anywhere.

Instead it's all about holding something over somebody else's head.

I agree that there are wheels within wheels.
The OAN position, with Gaetz’ wife hyping the announcement, seemed off to me. Gaetz is too valuable a MAGA player to be just an OAN personality.
I will be watching with interest. Trump has had 4 years to plan this term in office and how best to get America’s domestic enemies off balance and making errors.

“He has to do it on the floor of Congress as a sitting member to avoid any legal repercussions.”

He was elected for next term. He can show up and be a sitting member.

What exactly is a “privileged motion”? I just looked it up. It is a motion that supersedes all regular business and gets voted on without debate because of the urgency of the issue. One of the issues that can be brought up in a privileged motion is a Question of Privilege - which means “a matter that a Member considers to question their integrity or the integrity of Council, which relates to the rights and privileges of the assembly or any of its Members to be brought up for possible immediate consideration because of its urgency.”

IOW, Gaetz is saying that because both his own personal integrity and the integrity of the House are in question, the records regarding hush money should be made public. Let the public see how Congress rewards some and punishes others and let the public decide about the integrity of all involved. And the House would have to vote immediately, not after taking time to bribe, threaten, and fashion narratives.

That is a whole different situation than proposing a bill that then goes through the sausage-making process.

Nobody who had hush funds used for them would bring this up like this. Gaetz is in a very particular situation right now that nobody else has ever been willing to use.

I agree with you that it is all about holding something over somebody else’s head. But I don’t think it is Gaetz doing that. I believe it is the Deep State which runs the committees through the people they’ve compromised. I believe it happens ALL THE TIME. And I believe that Gaetz’s moves are the first real steps towards changing that situation.

I do think that before Gaetz makes such a privileged motion, Kash Patel could remind some of the people in Congress that Gaetz would make a mighty fine investigator to investigate the crimes of Congress somewhere down the line, particularly on the weaponization of the government through lawfare, leaks, etc...

Of course, that is an indirect threat. But not all threats are bad. Accountability only exists when there is a real threat to criminals. The bad threats are the ones to people who are NOT criminals but could expose those who are. And that is EXACTLY what Liz Cheney, Adam Schiff, the Ethics Committee, Alexander Vindmann, etc ad nauseum have been all about. That is precisely what Gaetz is ranting against.

Like I said, I don’t think Gaetz has a problem with any of this coming out - just about it coming out in such an illegal way so that he can’t defend himself, just like the J6ers, Trump, Flynn, Carter Page, Steve Bannon, etc were not allowed to defend themselves because of Brady violations, perjury by government officials, etc. I think he’s saying ALL the information should be made public and let the chips fall where they will.

Robert's Rules of Order. I know.

And once again you show that somebody could have made a privileged motion long before now to bring this to the floor and none have.

Who would have been in a position to do it before now? Who could say that they believe their integrity is being impugned because of the secrecy of the hush money funds?

Anybody in the House.

Who could say that they believe their integrity is being impugned because of the secrecy of the hush money funds?

The whole bloody House of Representatives!

The integrity of EACH member is being impugned without such a disclosure.
EACH member is SUSPECT without the names being published.

I rise to clear my name and the name of any other members by calling for the release of the names of those in the sexual abuse Hush Fund.

Or words to that effect.

And Gaetz is proposing to clear up that situation.

Once again...what stopped him from doing it before now? Political suicide?

And there is no guarantee that he will even be sworn into office in Jan.

“...the 2020 census undercounted us...”

What are the details on that?

An issue with counting illegals or something else?

While I understand you feel strongly there has to be an incitement to embark upon such a course as disclosing the list of members who have had nondisclosure payments made. Some of those payments may have been based on blackmail. The ethics committe has the duty to evaluate each case, not every member of the Senate.

At this point the Senate is proposing that the Gaetz investigation, which was a biased and corrupt kangaroo investigation, should be disclosed when these other investigations were not made public. The hypocrisy and targeting is such an incitement.

The leadership of the Senate had the responsibility of monitoring these accusations and payments of Senate members, not Gaetz, especially because the existence of such a list makes the persons on the list vulnerable to blackmail.

There are many unsavory deals, payoffs and quid proquo occurring continuouslly in Congress. Are you suggesting that anyone who believes that, based on circumstances, to reveal some of these is to be excoriated for not revealing them sooner?
