Spanning 3,400 miles, the tunnel would be the most ambitious infrastructure project ever undertaken. The difficulties of building an underground rail tunnel all the way from London to New York might seem insurmountable, yet plans to actually construct such a tunnel are genuinely being considered, with those behind the idea estimating that it could cost somewhere in the region of $20 trillion.
Not only would the tunnel be the longest ever built by a huge margin at 3,400 miles long, but it would also make incredibly fast trans-Atlantic travel a reality, with trips between New York and London taking a mere 54 minutes to complete.
This remarkably short travel time would be achieved by creating a vacuum within the tunnel and using pressurized vehicles that could theoretically reach speeds of up to 3,000mph.

20 trillion? Yeah sure, add a zero to that 20 and maybe.
Or New York City.
Connecting New York City and London via a tube is like connecting two toilets that can only empty into each other. Flushing one overflows the other, back and forth.
To calm everyone’s fears it should be named Titanic Tunnel. No worries? It’s unrisky?
At least 2 zeros. It would probably cost about 2-8 quadrillion.
Its not his project.
Some outfit was suggesting a $20 Trillion cost for a high speed train link from London to New York, then Musk posted on X he could do it for a 1000 times less, which works out to $20 Billion.
How about a bridge across the Bering Sea to join Alaska and Russia? Then rail lines to link it to the USA?
We need high speed trains that will make money! How about: LA to Las Vegas? and San Francisco to Reno? Or even an Nevada only line from Vegas to Reno with a stop in Carson City and Tonapah? In the 1930s they made an English Science Fiction film called the Transatlantic Tunnel that spoke of such a thing—and all the problems they had.
BTTT
He tried a tube/tunnel in Los Angeles. The concept flopped and he went on to other things.
3000mph times 54 minutes = 2700 miles - that’s 761 miles shy of London.
False advertising!!
Ye-e-e-ah so maybe you go first and I’ll watch, see how it goes.
I would think a transatlantic tunnel would only be fit for cargo even if feasible. Then, in that case, why not just use ships?
Lord knows I hate the cold!
I keep thinking, with a trend toward the military, that we don’t need any easy access to the continent.
Who the hell wants to go to Londonstan???
(To calm everyone’s fears it should be named Titanic Tunnel)
Now that would be a hoot.
Why would we want tobhook up with a dump like London?
They exist. I’ve seen pictures...with my relative in them...

Clean fill wanted.! :)
Maybe we could use the dirt to build a mountain range on the Mexican border..
Well, it’s a thought. :)
Exactly. It’s literally a black hole for money.
