President-elect Donald Trump says that Tom Homan, his former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director, will serve as “border czar” in his incoming administration.
“I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders,” he wrote late Sunday on his Truth Social site.
Homan was widely expected to rejoin Trump’s second administration in a border-related role.
In addition to overseeing the southern and northern borders and “maritime, and aviation security,” Trump said Homan “will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin,” a central part of his agenda.
He says he had “no doubt” Homan “will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job.”

Great choice!!!!
Awesome! This is a no-nonsense guy who will get the job done if the govt hacks don’t get in his way. Great choice!
I LOVE this guy. But what’s ask this “czar” stuff? Give him a real cabinet position. Homeland Security?
He will be the “border czar” and “in charge of our Nation’s Borders.”
But will he be heading a department? If he doesn’t head a department, what authority will he have? How’s that going to work?
He was Trump’s “former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director.” Why didn’t Trump name him to be the permanent Immigration and Customs Enforcement director?
Seems odd.
Need this position from day 1.
He’s also named UN Ambassador.
That is probably related to stopping Putin.
I can’t give you a good explanation of the difference, but in post #5 it appears that Homan is going to have an enormous amount of authority.
“Border Czar” is an ad-hoc position that presumably would not need Senate confirmation, and thus not blockable by Cornyn.
Not big on the ‘czar’ thing either. Has the stink of shadow government, one of the reasons we got here in the first place.
I can only go by Post #5 which states he will be in charge of the borders and deportations. It appears he has a lot of authority.
Why handcuff him with running a bloated bureaucracy that is in bad need of reorganization? We need his boots on the ground.
Maybe a czar position doesn’t need to be confirmed by Senate, so that frees him up to put in the best person for a job. Get McConnell out of the equation.
Trump fears the RATs in the Senate will hold up Cabinet Nominees - he wants the Senate to work with him and allow “recess appointments” (That would require the Senate go on recess for a few days for him to make appointments).
But Trump wants them in the Cabinet in some capacity, while the nominations work their way thru the senate
I believe you’ve nailed it, Bob. Well argued.
Good move. A man with relevant experience is still qualified, available and interested.
Would you look at that! No anonymous sources needed.
Amazing. And minus the inflammatory “without evidence” bilge. Somehow the air smells fresher as well.
