The only way they could get away with this is if politicians have passed laws making it illegal to hire non-union members, in order to win the union votes.
Does anybody know if that is the case?
Interesting comment. Gives me an added perspective.
As somebody else mentioned, both the companies and the unions are corrupt. That’s because the politicians want the money of the corporate world but the votes of the union members. Seems to me that the government buys the corporations so they can please the unions and it’s a win-win for everybody except the taxpayers who are stuck with both higher taxes and higher prices.
In a couple days, Biden will go Hartley and will become our saviour.
“But it’s going to be a problem if we have a bunch of corporations controlling everything (think of guys like Zuck and Bezos). This is where we need Unions. Even if they may be SOBs.”
You sound like you’re under the false impression that union members could (or would) somehow ‘reign in’ corrupt guys like Zuck and Bezos. But what if... the reality was (and it actually is)... that corrupt union leaders are the ones in control of the unions. That’s exactly “why” I am anti-unions. The union leaders are bad guys, just as bad as the corrupt corporation heads. Seen it time and time again and the current dockworkers strike is just the most recent, primo example.

I’m not Union busting, I just don’t think these guys deserve 300-400k plus a year after a 50% increase.
Are there any laws that prevent non-union workers from filling these positions?

Laws of Physics and Chemistry, relating to Lead, Chemical propellants, gravity, velocity, momentum, etc.
If they're overpaid, the corporation should be able to fire the workers. Then hire replacements.
Ideally, the unions and the corporations will work together. But sometimes that may not work out.
I don’t quite understand that response. Are you being facetious, or am I just being sorta dense? lol
Isn't that part of the standard minimum qualifications for any union boss job?
Said another way, Big govt and big business go hand in hand.
Automation takes different folks. So two things have to happen...to automate...we have to create the automated cycle and then hire a different category of workers.
Yes they do.
Which one of the Founders said that the country would be over once lawmakers used their power to help out their friends?
The workers will shut down the ports before we can get them automated.
Or Harry Bridges.

After some perceived injustice in the first grade, I complained to my mother. She said Son, life is unfair, you must learn to live with it. I didn’t understand it, but I did do what she said and my life has been okay since then .
Automation is constantly increasing, AI is going to become ever better, Elon Musk has these robots in his factories making electric cars...
Life is not fair all the time for all people... But I’m with Winston Churchill on this when he famously said, “Americans can always be trusted to do the rWinston Churchill is often paraphrased as saying something along the lines of, “Americans can always be trusted to do the right thing, once all other possibilities have been exhausted.”
ut more jobs will be created in other areas. Life goes on.
I looked up at Churchill quote on the ChatGPT app in 10 seconds... 2 years ago I couldn’t spell ChatGPT.

The strike well-timed to coincide with the election but after the voting happens the Uniparty will unite to shut it down.
Biden and the GOP shut down the railroad workers from striking at a time when no election was in front of them.
One of my earliest political memories
Even as a young teen I thought ‘that’s stupid.’
I was always being told about the children starving in Africa and India.
