Donald Trump says he’ll vote ‘yes’ on Amendment 4 to overturn Florida ban on abortion after 6 weeks

Former President Donald Trump says he’ll vote in favor of Florida’s abortion referendum that will appear on the ballot throughout the state for the Nov. 5 election.

NBC News reporter Dasha Burns on her X feed highlighted video of Trump telling her that he would vote to support the ballot initiative. He said, according to Burns, that he thinks Florida’s ban on abortion after six weeks is too restrictive.

“I think the six-week is too short, there has to be more time,” Trump said.

Florida’s ban on abortion after six weeks of pregnancy went into effect in May. The statewide referendum, called Amendment 4, would alter the state’s constitution to protect abortion until viability, in effect negating the six-week limitation on abortions that Gov. Ron DeSantis signed.

Trump, the Republican nominee for President, has previously said he thought the abortion issue should be decided by states and supported the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 vote in 2022 to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in America.

Trump had been noncommittal on abortion bans earlier this month.

“Uh, I’m going to announce that. I’m going to actually have a press conference on that at some point in the near future, so I don’t want to tell you now,” Trump said at Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8. “I think the abortion issue has been taken down many notches. I don’t think it’s a big factor anymore really.”

In the NBC interview Thursday, Trump went further beyond just the abortion issue to say he’d support access to in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and announced he supports government funding of the procedure for couples trying to conceive and he acknowledged insurance companies should cover the cost.

“We are going to be, under the Trump administration, we are going to be paying for that treatment,” Trump said in the NBC interview. “We’re going to be mandating that the insurance company pay.”

The Republican nominee has been a critic of far-right attempts to limit access to IVF since the Alabama Supreme Court ruled earlier this year the embryos considered for IVF procedures have actual personhood status and have protections as such under the law.

“in a country where a majority of the voters support legal access to abortion.”

That’s what the dope smokers and people that cheat elections and fake polls tell me.

But I don’t believe them. Because... duh.

“We have other things to worry about. America is a constitutional republic. We are trying to keep that. Democrats are attempting to force communism on this nation. If everyone wants abortion, so be it.”

^^^^THIS^^^^

Everything that is good about our way of life in this country is at serious risk of extinction.

The article states that Trump did not say how he will vote on the referendum.

I believe that Trump supports an abortion ban after the first trimester.

Well.... they ask him a question and he shoots ‘em straight.

Sometimes I don’t like the result, but I do appreciate the honesty.

Six weeks is when the fetal heartbeat begins. Keep the requirement at six weeks.

“Amendment 4, would alter the state’s constitution to protect abortion until viability”

Actually, the wording indicates that a “healthcare provider” can approve an abortion at any time for unspecified “health” reasons. This means in effect some Planned Parenthood “healthcare provider” can rubber stamp an abortion up to 9 months on a completely formed baby.

I’m beginning to wonder if Trump has any core values at all. Where else is he willing to sell out his core supporters?

I’m disappointed in his comments as well.

However from a moral standpoint, a more dispassionate approach is needed.

If both major parties are anti-life and, if no viable third party with a chance of winning is on the ballot with a pro-life message, the obligation to vote remains for citizens of faith.

The moral calculus then involves selecting the candidate that is more pro-life than the other and considering what other political issues are in play that could potentially effect the pro-life cause.

Returning the issue of abortion to the states is not a perfect solution. But it is much better than a nation wide federal mandate for all abortions at any time.

I don’t like this anymore than you do but even though we disagree with what Trump is saying here, the choice seems obvious, even if unpalatable.

It’s a stupid rule. Until viability? It’s stupid

A person starts living at conception. After that it’s killing. Some doctor is going to tell you when it’s ok to kill your kid.

So stupid.

“America is a constitutional republic”

“If everyone wants abortion, so be it.”

Interesting to see these two thoughts together, right next to each other.

Trump is running for elected office.
He doesn’t get to stay quiet on this..

In fact, he’s actually been pretty consistent..

The pro life crowd in Florida allowed 6 week ban.

Why is the 6 weeks allowed by them?
Isn’t that pro death for a human that begins at conception?

“The article states that Trump did not say how he will vote on the referendum.”

Good catch, everyone needs to take a slow down. This article could be misconstruing, misrepresenting, or taking it out of context. As we get closer to the election there is going to be a lot of this happening. NOW is when we really need to chase it down well before having a knee jerk reaction. Because knee jerk is what they want to give the rumor more exposure.

It’s as pro death as partial birth or after birth abortion.
Yes.

Trump got rid of abortion from the constitution after every wimpy assed Republican president and Congress did not do this in 50 years

What is it that people want from him September of the year that we decide between a constitutional republic and a communistic state wherein they will rule that we like abortion and pay for it, contribute to it

Please explain what Trump is supposed to do, now, precisely, when the true number of people who presently want abortion is at more than half the country, and we are not a theocracy but a government by th people
