Donald Trump says he’ll vote ‘yes’ on Amendment 4 to overturn Florida ban on abortion after 6 weeks

Former President Donald Trump says he’ll vote in favor of Florida’s abortion referendum that will appear on the ballot throughout the state for the Nov. 5 election.

NBC News reporter Dasha Burns on her X feed highlighted video of Trump telling her that he would vote to support the ballot initiative. He said, according to Burns, that he thinks Florida’s ban on abortion after six weeks is too restrictive.

“I think the six-week is too short, there has to be more time,” Trump said.

Florida’s ban on abortion after six weeks of pregnancy went into effect in May. The statewide referendum, called Amendment 4, would alter the state’s constitution to protect abortion until viability, in effect negating the six-week limitation on abortions that Gov. Ron DeSantis signed.

Trump, the Republican nominee for President, has previously said he thought the abortion issue should be decided by states and supported the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 vote in 2022 to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in America.

Trump had been noncommittal on abortion bans earlier this month.

“Uh, I’m going to announce that. I’m going to actually have a press conference on that at some point in the near future, so I don’t want to tell you now,” Trump said at Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8. “I think the abortion issue has been taken down many notches. I don’t think it’s a big factor anymore really.”

In the NBC interview Thursday, Trump went further beyond just the abortion issue to say he’d support access to in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and announced he supports government funding of the procedure for couples trying to conceive and he acknowledged insurance companies should cover the cost.

“We are going to be, under the Trump administration, we are going to be paying for that treatment,” Trump said in the NBC interview. “We’re going to be mandating that the insurance company pay.”

The Republican nominee has been a critic of far-right attempts to limit access to IVF since the Alabama Supreme Court ruled earlier this year the embryos considered for IVF procedures have actual personhood status and have protections as such under the law.

"he’s one vote, Florida will decide what it wants, get elected"

Good response. I don't live in Florida anyway, so whatever the people of Florida decide is their business.

Honestly, I don’t think a majority support “all” abortion, the media has gone full scale yes or no on the matter and it’s reflective in polls.

No one is going to pass any laws that will completely eliminate the practice, it’s just a talking point and as we see, white suburban women consider it more important than food costs.

It’s back to a state issue, let’s move on from that at the federal level and address the alphabet agency overreach.

He will lose the presidency if he pushes pro life because half this country wants abortion. Men and women.

He’s not sticking his finger in the wind. He’s negating the issue.

Why is anyone asking him this question? Why do tgey care how he’ll vote?

What will he do as president to pro life people? He’s already the only president to go to tge March for life.

DJT is either pandering to the Demon party or is actually not pro life at all.

I’m beginning to wonder if Trump has any core values at all.

Trump is trying to get elected and he has to appeal to white suburban women.

“The pro death crowd is not gonna vote for you dude.”

I think you are correct in that, but that is not who Trump is aiming at.

The democrats have got a deceptive attack on Trump over abortion and he has to fend them off with statements like that. I assume he is using deception to ward off deception. As president, abortion is totally out of his hands. That is what makes the democrats featuring it deceptive propagaqnda, gaslighting. Some women can’t see that.

It's not half. At this point, it's 60% (around that) of the population who's in favor of abortion.

“ But I would have preferred he said something like, “This is a state issue. And I’m not running for governor of Florida. So my Florida vote is private.””

In other words, “I’m pro life on this”

Is it 60%? I don’t doubt it. It’s sick.

That’s where the work needs to be done. And not by one conservative presidential candidate during an election year

Yesterday my priest said we have to vote for the incremental pro life person. Today after the IVF statement, he said he’s not able to be voted for. I hate this!

Does your little statistic chart include women whose opposition to abortion is their most important issue?

To my suburban wife, Abortion is the number one issue. And she has indicated that based on Trump’s recent statements, she can’t vote for him.

I’m hoping Trump is lying his ass off.

Spouting this pro abort BS just to get the soccer moms and childless cat ladies to ease off the abortion issue.

We have other things to worry about. America is a constitutional republic. We are trying to keep that. Democrats are attempting to force communism on this nation.

If everyone wants abortion, so be it.

If that is the country we live in, then America deserves a Kamala Harris Presidency.

That’s one way of looking at it

My country’s constitution does not have abortion as a legal right. My state does not. My state is thriving btw

Does the headline even match what Trump said? All I saw is he said he thought 6 weeks was too restrictive, not that he’s voting yes..

I’m still voting for Trump, but I’m pissed off. Pandering to the pro-aborts will not gain him a single vote. They’re voting for Kamala no matter what. Trump may lose a lot of pro-life voters because of this. He should zip it.
