Young people with congential defects have always dropped like flies. Likely even more due to lack of awareness. You didn't hear about them because information wasn't available at the touch of a fingertip.. especially sensationalized/clickbaity information. Today someone somewhere dies at a less than normal age and the entire conspiracy blogosphere lights up because that's where the hits, clicks and ad revenue are.

Except official numbers do not support that. They show a huge spike in childhood heart failures and weird clots. But hey, go take you clot shot... it’ll probably be fine.
Same thing with a lot of other sociological phenomena.
In my entire high school, for example, there were absolutely no gays. (Well, except for that one nun with the noticeable moustache we always had our doubts about.)
Today? Nothin' but gays!
