I am Jewish, and the Crusades did not treat my people well at all. However, it is a FACT that the Crusades were a reaction to the Muslim conquest of many Christian countries over the course of several centuries leading up to the time of the First Crusade. Though there were many war crimes and excesses during and as part of the Crusades, the bigger historical picture would lead one to understand that it was a defensive series of wars, one undertaken to preserve the religious character of Europe.
