I live in central Illinois. Regular gas is pushing $4 a gallon with premium pushing $5 a gallon. I would guess this is related to Hurricane Beryl blowing through the gulf coast and Houston. Ouch...
That is about what gases prices are in central Illinois. $4.80 for premium
Even though your car says it takes premium, you don’t have to put premium in it.
I would say JB and coo-coo-omela.
I filled up yesterday in NC. At the price of premium, I always try to keep our truck full and never let it get below half a tank. Yesterday, I was a “hair” below 3/4’s of a tank. Cost me $35 to bring it to full. Price was $4.24.9 for premium. It didn’t have to be like this, huh? I hope and pray that come November, enough people vote with their wallets to overcome the cheating by the demoncrats. If they get back in, we won’t even have a wallet left, huh?
Here in northwest Indiana I haven’t seen the articles about the Joliet plant closing. I’ll have to look for them, but it explains the 40 - 60 cent increase in gas prices 2 weeks ago. $4.29 in Crown Point, IN Family Express on Tuesday.
Thanks for the tip on the articles.
Biden/Harris.
“With premium you get better mpg, the engine will perform better and probably last longer”
False unless the compression ratio and other characteristics of the combustion chamber and ignition timing are designed to require it.

“Better MPG” and “better performance”.
The engine computer will change operating parameters depending on fuel. Fuel isn’t monitored, the knock sensor is. Regular will preignite so timing is pulled back to compensate. Premium will also preignite but the timing can be advanced before preignition occurs. More advance is more power and MPG.
Engine computers “learn” and are constantly adjusting parameters to optimize operating characteristics.
$2.93 in the Ozarks.

$2.97 here in ‘Bama... Was $1.79 under Trump.

It won’t drop much, depending on where you live.
Owner manuals say it OK to use less octane fuels on occasion but not on a regular basis. Do you have experience doing this for an extended period of time?
I am retired and don’t drive a lot. I am still stunned when I need a fill up for my premium rated car...
Even though you didn't respond to me directly, this likely explains the drastic increase in gas prices in central Illinois
Thanks for adding fuel to the fire!...
My pleasure in spreading accurate news, even if it is depressing. It is only a guess, but that refinery in Joliet probably provides gas for stations within 200 or 300 miles of it. And maybe further, because I drove out to Wash DC area on Monday (15 July) and paid $3.01 per gallon in western Ohio, driving back on Thursday (14 July) a gallon was $3.59.
$3.28 in Atlanta
