She has it wrong . Trump fell for a trap, agreeing to Biden’s request, that BIDEN apparently did too, because it was done to do EXACTLY what is happening in real time, right now. Trump should have waited and let what is happening now AFTER THE FREAKING CONVENTION so all this chaos happens when it is waaay too late to replace unkkkle joe

"She has it wrong . Trump fell for a trap, agreeing to Biden’s request..."

I'd say Trump called his bluff, knowing that he could destroy Joe in any debate, even if it had been 20-years-ago-Joe.

As for Joe, his handlers figured that they couldn't duck ALL debate options, so they figured they'd better get it done as early as possible -- also knowing things were going downhill in a hurry.

So now we have the lamest of all possible lame duck Presidents.

Trump's team likely didn't want a last minute switch if Jao Bai-din suddenly dropped out due to health reasons. Better to have your opponents identified early so that you can plan accordingly.

The trap for Trump was that the debate format, venue, and moderators were rigged in Biden's favor. The expectation was that Trump would refuse and then be subject to derision in the the news media. Or, if Trump accepted, it was thought that with rest, preparation, and the right medications, Biden would do well enough in a friendly format for ninety minutes to stop the bleeding away of his political support.

In the event, Trump did the unexpected and accepted the rigged debate set-up without qualification. Trump then did quite well in the debate despite the disadvantages, which put the attention on Biden's shocking debility and confusion. His loss of public and elite political support accelerated.

Most Democrats expect that Trump will beat Harris, but they hope and believe that, with a few breaks, they can still keep control of the Senate and prevent catastrophic losses in the House. The Dems could be right, but I think not. In politics as in sports, athletes become old, and teams and playbooks tend to become stale. Not only is Biden is old for the same, but the Dem playbook is stale and out of touch.

Moreover, credit must go to Trump and his feral cunning. He recognized that Biden was too weak to take a punch, so down Biden went, like Sonny Liston after one well-placed punch.
