How many called on Nixon to resign?
Several.. don’t know if an actual tab was kept..
On Aug. 7, 1974, U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater, R-Ariz., U.S. House Minority Leader John Rhodes, R-Ariz., and U.S. Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott, R-Pa., made it clear to the embattled Nixon that he faced all-but-certain impeachment, conviction and removal from office in connection with the Watergate scandal. So it took only THREE members of his minority party to get him to resign. Now we are up to TWELVE Democrats telling Biden to bail out of the 2024 race.Nixon announced his resignation the next evening, effective at noon on Aug 9, 1974.
Would Biden end his quest for re-election and NOT resign immediately?
Goldwater and Howard Baker went to him and told Nixon that he would be impeached and did not have the votes in the Senate.
That would have been a majority in the house and 2/3’ds of the Senate.
Obviously they were a majority Democrat, but a majority of Republicans were with them.
Funny…that was 50 years ago this summer. Time rhymes.
They are only worried about the fate of the Democratic candidates in November if Biden is their Presidential candidate.
More pertinently, if Biden is not fit to serve as President for another term, why not demand he resign immediately? As awful as Kamala is in many ways, at least she doesn't have dementia. Trump may prefer to face Biden in November, but he should be equally effective against Kamala...and she would have nearly 4 months to demonstrate to the country that she is not up to the job.
