I went to medical school with many stupid people. Sure, cream of the crop and all that, but bone-stupid. Becoming a doctor, like becoming a lawyer, doesn’t require Newtonian or Einstein-level intelligence, merely average, coupled with persistence. In many cases, medical (and law) students are GREAT at memorizing vast tracts of information, but sorting through it all, making rational conclusions, applying that information to real-life situations is beyond them.

In the wise-a$$ Latina’s case, at this point in her life, judging from some of her more recent rulings and dissents, I’m afraid she’s demonstrating signs of diabetic dementia.

I know exactly what you mean. I saw many of the type you describe in law school and in the profession in the years since then. They absorb a mass of information and a short order menu of practical tasks and tricks and make a living from that. Otherwise, intellectual curiosity and the capacity for analytical and abstract thinking are impaired or nearly absent.
