“Shawn McBreairty, 53, from Hampden, committed suicide, according to a former Hermon School Committee member, after receiving confirmation of the death of a Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office deputy.”

This wording implies that learning of the deputy’s death caused McBreairty to commit suicide - but then never explains or elaborates.

What a pathetic and irresponsible excuse for journalism this is!
Why post something so incoherent and incomplete on FR?

After reading it several times, I suspect the writing is the reason for the confusion.

Try reading the same sentence by replacing the word of with from and the words after receiving with who received.

Shawn McBreairty, 53, from Hampden, committed suicide, according to a former Hermon School Committee member, who received confirmation of the death from a Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Little words make all the difference. So many news articles are confusing today because of these errors.
