According to a report from the nonprofit group Child Care Aware of America, child care costs have surged significantly, surpassing average rent payments for families with more than one child across all 50 U.S. states. Here are the key findings:
National Average: The national average cost for child care increased by 3.7% from 2022 to 2023. Families with two kids in a child care center pay an average of about $20,000 yearly across the Midwest, South, and West. In the Northeast, the cost is even higher, exceeding $32,000 annually.

Those kind of numbers put a premium for jobs that allow one parent to work at home.
We struggled and did without when our kids were little and I stayed home with them.
We just couldn’t buy or do everything that entered our minds.
There are plenty of ways of saving money. Shop sales, thrift stores, garage and yard sales, make your own food instead of taking out or going out. Cut the fast food. Conserve on vacations. Plan trips to run errands and do them all in one trip instead of heading out separately for each trip.
Staying at home saves a BUNDLE in child care costs.
I read somewhere that someone did an analysis and budget and found out that the double income, when all expenses of extras are considered, only brought in 25% more disposable income. That much can be saved by being frugal.
The big problem is the entitlement mentality people have these days that they have to have everything they see their parents have, that took them decades to reach. They are not comparing themselves in their 20’s or 30’s to where their parents were in their 20’s or 30’s.
THAT would be a more accurate comparison.
The hidden story is taxes eat so much income that both parents need to work.
Sounds like people need to quit trying to keep up with the Joneses and a parent needs to stay home with the kid. You have to make some sacrifices, but it is so worth it.
Exactly! Another factor to add to the mix is the price of housing in a decent, safe neighborhood is mindboggling.
Feminism didn’t do that.
Feminism, at least the feminism I grew up with, was all about the doing what was best for a woman, and her family if she has one.
Stay at home, work outside the home. Whichever was best for her and hers.
Deep State has a mad-on for healthy, happy, thriving nuclear families. It’s using its corruption of feminism to help them conduct their war. Women who aid and abet Deep State aren’t feminists. They’re handmaidens for Deep State. And it’s not working out well for them, is it.
