Events have now set up an epic conflict between a genuine New York-made hero, Donald J. Trump, builder of skyscrapers and magnificent golf course... and hero of the Apprentice -- against a lawless gang of judges and Communist frauds who are steadily destroying their great City.
But rather than sink the Man, their grave injustice has elevated his noble Character to a higher plateau. The blue collar workers, the builders, the police and firefighters, the Bronx brigade of patriots, and everyday right-thinking New Yorkers are raising their voices in support of NYC's great son of Liberty, Free Enterprise, and Chutzpah!
And now's the perfect time to note how the great patriot and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson compared the power of Character to another great force of nature on the west side of New York State:
I suffer, every day, from the want of perception of beauty in people. They do not know the charm with which all moments and objects can be embellished, the charm of manners, of self-command, of benevolence.
Repose and cheerfulness are the badge of the gentleman, -- repose in energy. The Greek battle-pieces are calm; the heroes, in whatever violent actions engaged, retain a serene aspect.
As we say of Niagara, it falls without speed. A cheerful, intelligent face is the end of culture, and success enough. For it indicates the purpose of Nature and wisdom attained.
Thanks poconopundit!! It was really weird, that right after I saw the thread reporting the verdict, I opened the book "The Bunker," which is about the last days in Hitler's Fuherbunker, and the breakout of those who left the bunker after Hitler's death. That quote was at the beginning of the chapter I was going to read next. It was so appropriate to the circumstances, I couldn't help but offer it up.
And thank you for your wonderful excerpt from Emerson.
