The Biden administration faced backlash online after it issued a grovelling statement about the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
Raisi and his country’s foreign minister, along with other officials, died in a helicopter crash this week.

I don’t think it’s worth criticizing. If they’d left out two very important words, “official condolences”, then it would be groveling. They also made sure that the Iranian people know we support them, not the tyrannical, murderous Iranian government.
Hannibal Lecter could have sent that from prison to the families of the judge and jury who sentenced him, after their helicopter crashed.
It seems dry and a little sarcastic to me, like one of those liberal non-apology, apologies, that sound more like an insult.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi wasn’t the “supreme Leader of Iran.” That title is held by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is still alive.
