An anti-Israel student tore up her diploma during her commencement ceremony last Friday.
Tarsis Salome was one of several students who came to the ceremony wearing zip ties on their hands in protest against the university's decision to remove the tent encampment set up on the Columbia campus last month. The protesting students also carried pro-Palestinian signs.
Salome tore her diploma to shreds immediately upon receiving it.
Another student appeared to have the name of senior Hamas official Mazen Jamal Al-Natsheh written on her cap as she accepted her diploma, the New York Post reported.
The Students for Justice in Palestine Columbia chapter posted videos of the commencement protests and stated, "PhD students at Columbia walked out of their graduation in protest, leaving entire rows of seats completely empty. Meanwhile, GSAS [Graduate School of Arts and Sciences] MA students walked across the stage waving their Palestine flags. Two separate graduations, but the students remind us all of Palestine every time.”

If he’s a foreign student, he has no loan debt. It’s all cash on the barrelhead, no scholarships. Just pay. Mom and pop must be ecstatic.
I took out Student Loans my last two years of pharmacy school. I was broke and had no family with deep pockets to help me. The loans were a legal contract and I paid them off early. President Reagan did not have the taxpayer pay off my loans and that was the way it should be. I got a second degree in an subject that would give me a high paying job immediately after graduation. I made wise decisions.

I don’t believe paying for college is my responsibility. Therefore I loaned money to my kids if they needed it.
Only one kid did four year degree. He had some loans from me and some traditional. His college job in his field paid the last two years.
He paid off all his debt in one year. Highly compensated STEM degree and frugal living.
Waste of good gasoline.

If they don’t want their diploma or to graduate, don’t recognize it.
When a prospective employer wants proof of education, it doesn’t exist as they never finished college as a matter of their own choice.
Just one more example of why I stopped donating to Columbia many years ago. As for the DEI hired president, Minouche Shafik, she should be fired and deported back to her birth country of Egypt.

12000 student body in 1960 but 60000 football stadium; national football champions in 1957 and 2010; graduated 1st CIA agent killed in Afghanistan by Taliban in 2002. We do not allow the Palestinian rag to be flown on our soil(only Old GLory), we do not riot and sing National Anthem during half-time. Very small college, very US Navy ROTC oriented. Very unapologetically American.
In his case, it turned out to be more than theater. Of course, that was only a few short years ago.
Nowadays, that scumbag Marxist “cadet” might get on-the-spot promotions like a royalty payment every time his picture appears somewhere.
