The auditions for vice president continued on Saturday as North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum found himself center stage at Donald Trump's Jersey Shore mega-rally.
Burgum is on the short list of candidates for vice president and got the full treatment on Saturday. He got to ride on Trump's campaign plane and spoke briefly at the rally.
During his speech, Trump praised Burgum, saying that "he probably knows more about energy than anybody I know."
He added cryptically: "So, get ready for something, okay? Just get ready."
Burgum ran for president and dropped out in December before the first nominating contests had been held. He has impressed people besides Trump with his depth of knowledge not only on energy issues but foreign policy as well.
But many political insiders raise an eyebrow at the thought of Burgum joining the ticket. His fellow North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer was "surprised" when the rumor mill churned out Burgum's name. He didn't see the advantage “because a white male from a state with three electoral votes that haven’t gone to a Democrat since LBJ does not seem to bring a lot of electoral value to the ticket.”
But Cramer thinks that Burgum has moved on to Trump's radar because of his passionate defense of the former president.
“Nobody has played their cards better since the primary,” said Scott Jennings, a former political adviser to President George W. Bush. “Trump is a casting director. Who looks more like a VP than Burgum?”
It's almost as if Burgum entered the presidential race to make a play for vice president. It's not unheard of, of course. He may have believed that even a failed run for the White House would raise his profile enough to be considered.

Oil and gas
He seems nice but Vance is a superstar.
3 electoral votes the GOP is certain to win anyway?
Nothing
Zip.
Almost every POTUS or VPOTUS candidate the major parties try to inflict on us seems to not be a plain vanilla U.S. American, but instead includes at their birth at least some measure of foreign spice.
Vance is 2 years old politically. Trump won’t let DeWine get his hands on the successor.
I was big on him until I found out he’s in Bill Gate’s pocket. Don’t know if I trust him now.
I’m from ND. Never liked him, he appears to be a dull dud. He also has links to Microsoft, possibly a bud of Bill Gates. He could possibly be another Pence.
He was a do nothing governor that got the job simply because he’s rich and no one else wanted it. This years election we have a couple R’s running for ND gov that show ambition and promise - which is the opposite of Doug.
Vivek or Rand Paul would be much better, they have energy, appear to be loyal to the nation and do not hesitate to talk back to the left.
Noem would be better than Burgum. And I don’t want to hear about the dog. If all the left can find wrong with her is she put down a dangerous animal, then she must have quite a clean background. For the life of me, I can’t see how the hand wringers on FR took this so serious.

OK, I’ll bite, what’s the birth background of Doug Burgum?
If it’s Burgum, I’m willing to keep an open mind.
After all, he IS a Beltway outsider. That’s a HUGE plus.
“What Would Governor Doug Burgum Bring to the Republican Ticket?”
not a damn thing ...
>>”I’m from ND. Never liked him, he appears to be a dull dud.”
Dull in what sense? Boring or stupid?
I know Doug. He’s a good guy. But not a strong conservative like we FReepers would prefer.
Nothing
BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>”He also has links to Microsoft, possibly a bud of Bill Gates.”
He sold the IT company he founded, Great Plains Software, to Microsoft in 2001 for 1.1 Billion dollars. He became a Microsoft VP in charge of the new Microsoft division that had been created from the merger. In 2007, he left Microsoft. I’m not sure if that makes him a bud of Bill Gates.
Is he in Gates’ pocket...OR IS THERE A PICTURE OF HIM AND GATES THAT MAY BE A ONEFOR.
I’ll wait to see an explanation, but at this point, there would have to be some written policies, thoughts, ideas that indicate he is as NUTTY AS GATES.
I have thought of Burgum as VP for months.
He doesn’t ‘draw’ me……His persona is off-putting to me…….I’m not attracted to anything about him, fwiw
Donald Trump is our (MAGA) murder weapon.
Peter Navarro is the gunsmith.
I’d take Dr Navarro due to his impeccable MAGA credentials.
Someone being interviewed on The WAR Room by Steve Bannon first posited Peter Navarro for VP, last Thu. or Fri, on his show.
His only drawback is possibly his age, however... he is buff as he works out fastidiously.
The RIGHT candidate HAS to/WILL give the USA 8 glorious years of MAGA.
