Is that really all you took from that post? In the 1940's, Coppertone was advertised to darken and quicken a tan, while still protecting the skin. I believe it's said that the results of their product would have amounted to an SPF of 6 today, regardless of whatever they added to enhance the tan...so, yes, you are correct. It was a sunscreen. Thanks for pointing that out.
