In 2018 another group of Somalis ran childcare centers and defrauded the state of Minnesota out of millions of dollars. None were prosecuted. A local TV station recorded Somali parents with their kids pulling up to the center, leaving their kids in the car and going into the childcare center long enough to sign the register. The State was billed for a full day of childcare. A Twin Cities TV station did an investigation and confirmed that Somalis were taking suitcases full of as much as $1 million in cash as carry on baggage and flying from Minneapolis to Somalia.
