These were rest homes where the patients were treated kindly, got rest and exercise and actually most patients would eventually return to normal lives. Today such people are sent to psychiatrists where they are put on drugs that worsen their conditions. Some become mass shooters. Some become family annihilators. Some have careers on MSNBC.
