A large cargo ship lost power in New York City waters near the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge just weeks after the Dali ship lost power before crashing into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.
The 89,000-ton Qingdao containership lost all its power around 8:30 pm on Saturday between Bayonne, New Jersey, and Staten Island, New York.

Hmmmm....what are the odds....both under foreign flags. Need new rule...in USA Waters, there must be an American Pilot on every ship.
This happens more often than we hear about. It only makes the news if there is a major effect.
Just like road traffic, lots of problems every day, only makes the news if there is a major crash.
Affirmative Action is a “strength” too! Jackasses doing jobs they shouldn’t be doing.
A second cargo ship loses power? Near a major bridge? This was no boating accident.
Airplanes falling apart, ships crashing into bridges, cars setting themselves on fire. This must be some of that “build back better” booschidt the White House child sniffer was talking about.
Anyone else remember the Palermo Senator incident from 2002.
And where its next port of call would have been...
Norfolk.
Wasn’t a Port of Baltimore harbor pilot on board when the Key Bridge was struck?
Bash Bridges Better under Biden
(yikes)
Informative video. It is a chief engineer who works on similar type vessels. He gives his opinion based on his knowledge of marine diesel propulsion plants. Well worth watching it imho.
This must be some of that “build back better” candidate Biden promised us:
<><>Airplanes falling apart midair,
<><>ships crashing into bridges,
<><>cars setting themselves on fire.
And a competent hand-picked Transportation Secy to attend
to the problems................when he’s not on “maternity leave.”
Is china hacking them?
Seems there was something about the cranes that were vulnerable to Chinese hacking as the parts came from there.
“twice is a coincidence...”
I believe that there is always a local harbor Pilot at the controls of all vessels in US ports. The Baltimore ship actually had two local pilots at the controls when it hit the bridge.
FYI, this is because there are some ports/rivers that have currents/eddies that require local knowledge. For example, the Piscataqua River that flows between Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, ME flows at a rate only second to the Niagara River.
It is over 6 mph with the outgoing tide. Plus there are two draw bridges that ships need to go under on rt 1 and 1A. This is also the site of Kittery naval base where they retrofit attack subs.
So, you do not want some ships captain that grew up in Greece piloting a vessel bringing in Sea Salt from Saudi Arabia driving the vessel in this river port. Local knowledge is essential.
What Happened to Ever Given | Final Report Released by Panama Maritime Authority
Egyptian pilots and a Chinese crew . This is Evergreen’s Ever Given incident in the Suez Canal.
Interesting .
Fortunately the Verrazano is a suspension bridge.
I did a quick search. you’re wrong.
The whole time, I was in the Navy, I never saw a ship lose power.
