Donald Trump will not pick a hardline pro-life candidate as his running mate over concerns that it would be electorally unwise, according to latest reports.
NBC reported on Sunday that Trump has been asking about the positions of various potential vice-presidental picks on the issue, with particular concerns raised about Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.
“The president understands it as a treacherous issue — one that you can actually trip up and fall on your face with,” said a source close to Trump. “He’s concerned it will have a drag on the ticket if they’re seen as holding too staunch a position.”
Trump’s apparent red line is someone who supports anything stricter than a six-week ban.

I’ll believe Trump’s VP picks when he announces. Until then, ... no one knows.
Yep.
She’s one of my all-time favs. A good, down-home South Dakota farm girl who rose through the ranks, who mostly makes sense when she speaks, and looks good doing all of it.
I think you described Jim Jordan....(if he would take it.)
“I think you described Jim Jordan....(if he would take it.)”
I love Jordan. If Trump picked him as VP, he would automatically have ALL the Conservative votes, I’m betting. If only...
Yes, love him. You didn’t list Ohio. But, it fits your criteria. He has been one of the strongest Trump supporters.
He is being a bulldog in investigations and on Covid issue.
But, a good chance he would turn VP down.
“He’ll pick a younger version of himself.”
He absolutely has to. But is there such a person?
“That was Ronald Reagan’s mistake.
He picked a Deep State guy, George H. W. Bush, as his vice-”president.”
Have heard Bush was forced on him.
“Only education and exposure to graphic images and videos of dismembered feti will change their minds.”
I doubt if any of that would make a difference. As you said, Satan has possessed them and they would be immune to images, etc. It would only entertain them.
Unless I hear something to change my mind, I’m leaning toward Stefanik, too.
I also would like to see consideration given to Tom Fitton and Carol Swain — maybe for VP. Maybe for other positions. (Swain to head up Education until Trump axes that department. If Fitton were an attorney, he’d be good as AG. Sadly, he’s not an attorney.)
Kirchner, Bannon, Meadows, Lewandowski don’t have to “be THERE”. This is the 21st Century; we have technology.
Personally, I think we need to place less emphasis on abortion. It NEVER will be gone, even if supposedly outlawed.
My preference would be to place more emphasis on protecting the First Amendment, especially religious freedom and Christianity. Hearts are changed through religion, and abortion won’t decrease until hearts are changed. Much of the cause of abortion is indiscriminate sex, which also would decrease if hearts are changed through religious beliefs.
You mean the Tim Scott who endorsed and stumped for Murkowski?
Absolutely.
I realize that abortion cannot be stopped ever. People will do it.
The real problem is when the government endorses and promotes it. THAT is what God will judge.
And yes, men will not change by pressure from the outside. Outside pressure may be able to control behavior to SOME degree through enforcement, but true change comes from within, in the heart. Then outward enforcement is not needed.
“But, a good chance he would turn VP down.”
And really, who could blame him? Even the strongest patriot would hesitate to put themselves in a position to be ruthlessly attacked verbally (and possibly worse) by the left every single day of their existence. Considering what politics has now morphed into, I don’t see how anyone on the right does it. It has become a very dangerous and stress-filled line of work. And even if you’re a semi-left Democrat and if you know too much and pose a danger to their agenda... they might off you if you don’t tow their party line. (JFK was an inside job and Epstein didn’t kill himself.)
I wouldn’t blame him. But, he is in government, he is a politician and knows how bad it can be. He is still serving.
The speaker ship was offered to him and he turned it down. Any leadership brings extra stress. He is deep into the investigations now. Also stressful.
Appears to be a good man and would be honorable as VP.
Just an interesting speculation on my part.
You left out the part where Trump said it'll be a deal that will make both sides happy.
Before Trump what had all of those bigtime pro-life republicans accomplished? They wouldn’t even stop funding Planned Parenthood. They are mostly all worthless on ANY issue that we care about.
“If this is true, it is rather disappointing. It shows that President Trump is not pro-life for humane reasons, but more for political ones.”
Not necessarily. It may just be smart tactics. First off, as President, there’s very little he can do unilaterally on this issue. He’s already done the most important thing a president can do on abortion at the federal level - place conservatives on the Supreme Court who will give the issue back to the states.
De-federalizing abortion is the best favor Trump could have done for the pro-life movement. Re-federalizing the issue through Congressional legislation may be great when you have a conservative majority in Congress, but it will come back to bite you if/when a more liberal Congress comes to power.
What would you rather have? Thirty or so solidly conservative states with strong pro-life legislation that is likely to remain on the books for the foreseeable future, or abortion bans in all the states, going back and forth with guaranteed right to an abortion in all states, every 8 years or so?
I heard something brief on the news last night as I was going to bed that it had been leaked that Stafanik was no longer being considered, but I don’t know anything about the veracity of the report. I’m a fan of her myself, too liberal on social issues for me. Thanks.
