The Death of Mitch McConnell’s Sister-in-Law Is Under Criminal Investigation

In the “hmm, this sounds weird” category of stories today, multiple outlets are reporting that the death of Foremost Group CEO Angela Chao — the sister-in-law of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell — is being treated as a possible criminal matter.

A Texas county sheriff’s office is leading the investigation:

Chao, 50, was found dead shortly after midnight on Feb. 11 after being pulled out of a car that had gone into a pond on a private ranch in Johnson City, Texas, about 40 miles from Austin.

“This incident was not a typical accident," the Blanco County Sheriff's Office wrote in a letter to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Thursday.

At first, authorities seemed to think this was a simple accident, but in their letter to Texas AG Ken Paxton, they now sound suspicious:

"Although the preliminary investigation indicated this was an unfortunate accident, the Sheriff's Office is still investigating this accident as a criminal matter until they have sufficient evidence to rule out criminal activity," the letter said.

Angela Chao died after her car went into a pond in Blanca county TX about 2 weeks ago. There hasn’t been much info released to the public since. But this much we know.

Angela Chao was Sen. McConnell’s sister-in-law & CEO of Foremost, a shipping co. founded by her father James… pic.twitter.com/Z0JumeAMWG— Xi Van Fleet (@XVanFleet) February 22, 2024

The above tweet, by Xi Van Fleet, a pundit and author who escaped Communist China and has gained prominence in the U.S. with her anti-CCP stance, continues:

Angela Chao was Sen. McConnell’s sister-in-law & CEO of Foremost, a shipping co. founded by her father James Chao, who has deep ties with the CCP and a personal friend of fmr Pres of China Jiang Zemin.

Angela Chao was a board member of CCP’s Bank of China & China Ship Building Co. which builds ships for CCP’s Navy.

Her husband Jim Breyer’s joint venture firm,p IDG Capital, was just added to the list of ‘Chinese military companies’ by the Pentagon on Feb 9th, a day before Angela’s death.

Senate Minority Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced in late February that he will step down from his leadership post in November, although he will remain in the Senate.

BREAKING: Mitch McConnell to Step Down As Senate GOP Leader

While McConnell said it was time to move on, he did also mention his late sister-in-law in his announcement:

McConnell gave no specific reason for the timing of his decision, which he has been contemplating for months, but he cited the recent death of his wife’s youngest sister as a moment that prompted introspection. “The end of my contributions are closer than I’d prefer,” McConnell said. [emphasis mine]

Chao was married to venture capitalist Jim Breyer.

The ranch where Chao died is owned by a corporate entity connected to her husband, venture capitalist Jim Breyer, who has an office in Austin.

Chao was the sister of McConnell's wife, Elaine Chao, who has served as secretary of both the U.S. Labor and Transportation departments. Their father and mother founded the Foremost Group.

Authorities, meanwhile, are being tight-lipped and not releasing much information.

Since Chao's death remains the subject of a criminal probe, the Blanco County Sheriff's public information officer told the attorney general that reports, 911 logs, audio and video evidence as well as other material should not yet be released to media outlets that requested them, including CNBC.

At this point, this story remains in the “mysterious” pile, and it’s impossible to know what, if any, part Mitch McConnell plays in it. We do know, however, that a woman lost her life, and we pray for her and her family.

RedState will update you when new information comes in.

The family owns COSCO, China’s largest shipping company. Chinese families include all members, not just a particular line. A Chinese in America citizen or not, is considered Chinese by the CCP and treated as such.

“Angela Chao and her immediate family are all U.S. citizens.”

And all U.S. citizens are above reproach and anti-Commie, right?

Because of what happened with the car, not China.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You might be right about that. Kyle Bass (who also lives on a ranch in Texas) had originally sent out a message on X that her car was ‘launched backward into a pond’ and it was insinuated that it did this quite violently and in fact had gone over a significant obstacle to do that. If the car was truly out of control to Angela Chao (either by someone else controlling it remotely or something having gone completely haywire with the electronics), I would assume that just the potential of either would trigger a criminal investigation.
Along these same lines, I was reminded of the November, 2023 crash in Niagara Falls, NY when a Bentley Flying Spur went (what seemed to be) totally out of control and crashed at a very high speed into the border crossing checkpoint..... husband and wife were killed. I don’t think we ever heard what the outcome of that was and whether it also resulted in a criminal investigation.... https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/rainbow-bridge-bentley-1.7063757
Whether they are or aren’t is a completely separate and unrelated issue...
You know, there have been 8 or 9 articles posted about the death of Angela Chao and I don’t think I’ve ever seen such nonsense posted by commenters…. most of the time the misinformation is worse than the LSM.
“The family owns COSCO, China’s largest shipping company.” Really? Can you prove that? As far as I know, COSCO Shipping Lines is a China state owned company based in Shanghai…. and it was formed in 2016 when two container shipping lines were merged (COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd. and China SHIPPING Container Lines CO.) The company that James Chao started is called Foremost Group and it is based out of New York…...and he did that 60 years ago in 1964. Who actually owns Foremost now is not exactly clear since it is ‘privately held’ but it certainly seems like the Chao family controls it. To the best of my knowledge, there is no ownership connection between COSCO and Foremost… but I’ll be happy to be educated differently on that issue if you can support that. Is there a business connection between COSCO and Foremost? Probably since Foremost does a massive amount of shipping between China and the United States.
“Chinese families include all members, not just a particular line.” I have no idea what that is supposed to mean….
“A Chinese in America citizen or not, is considered Chinese by the CCP and treated as such.” And where are you getting this from? Is this your personal experience? I have several very close ties to several family member by marriage who were born in China and I personally have been to China many times for both personal and business reasons. I have no idea what you are talking about... and I highly doubt you do either.
All of that came out years ago - its on FR somewhere; sorry about the misnaming, its been may years since I read all of that.
The CCP has been killing or abduction Chinese in the US for years. I’m sure you know nothing about that either. They must be close friends. Or are you part of the multi-billion dollar CCP propaganda effort to make every one think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread?
Do you have a point... or is babbling in senseless innuendo your point? I ask you a few questions that you can’t answer so you pivot to suggesting ‘they must be close friends’? How about knocking it off? I happen to know many folks whose families come from China.... not one of them have an iota of respect or use for the CCP. They all are families that were just grateful to escape the starvation and murderous practices that Mao was inflicting on them...and what has that got to do with anything the CCP is doing today, or their propaganda effort etc.
