Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine (2 year anniversary)

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

“(nitrocellulose) is in short supply, at least here in the US, BUT somehow is being supplied to RUssia from Germany.”

That is an example of how a more public, unclassified source of information on the status of the inputs and enablers of Russia’s war machine, could leverage additional effects.

If journalists and activists can readily see such supply flows, additional grassroots pressures would likely occur spontaneously, enhancing overall effects, for little incremental cost.

“Regarding Turkey, I wonder how much of their economic problem is being caused by reaction to the issues caused by that horrific earthquake”

Fundamentally, Turkey’s problem has long been fiscal and monetary discipline. They have been through repeated bouts of high or hyper inflation, as well as currency devaluation, even before Erdogan took office.

Erdogan did it again, running the currency printing presses hot to pump up the economy before his reelection voting took place.

Putin has initiated a multi-year deliberate ramp up of the West’s Defense Industrial Base. Getting etched into policy and budgets - more coming from this year’s NATO Summit (the 75th Anniversary of NATO)

(AP, 9 July) — “NATO has signed a nearly $700 million contract to have member countries produce more Stinger missiles, one of many steps the alliance is pressing at its summit in Washington to get each country to boost its own weapons production capabilities...

...Out of 32 NATO members, 23 are expected to meet the 2% commitment this year, up from just six before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Estonian Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur told the Chamber that Russia is now spending an estimated 7 to 9 percent of its GDP on defense...

...National security adviser Jake Sullivan told the Chamber of Commerce that for the first time ever, the NATO countries will each pledge to make plans to strengthen their own industrial defense capacity. He said this would help the alliance “prioritize production of the most vital defense equipment we would need in the event of a conflict.”

Two NATO officials, speaking on condition of anonymity to provide details that have not been announced publicly, said part of the summit is focused on having each member commit to submitting defense industrial plans over the next year on how they would boost internal production.

The 32 members have widely varying defense industry sizes and capabilities, so each country’s plan could vary widely, from partnering with industry to partnering with other countries, one of the officials said.”

the NATO countries will each pledge to make plans

pledge? Wait until they actually do it before believing in some random pledge.

“the NATO countries will each pledge to make plans”

This is quite credible to me - that most or all of those nations will assign teams to analyze their Defense Industrial Base (most if not all already have), and develop investment priorities, in conjunction with NATO planners. This is typically how NATO works (slow, deliberate planning), and they do it well.

The shortfall is typically when it comes to actually cough up the money.

I think that there is a conscious effort to ensure that total productive capacity for key capabilities is increased, and diversified across multiple countries. This round of planning will likely be to sort out who is able and willing to do what, and to ensure that nothing big falls through the cracks.

He (Chuck Pfarrer) expressed very high confidence that Russia was going to lose this war in Ukraine, and have to withdraw (in a couple of more years).

If NATO countries stand tall and continue to meet their commitments then I believe Chuck is correct.

“Leaked American F-35 and F-15 documents appear authentic, Chinese security expert says”

“Recently leaked documents, purported to contain technical information about the F-35 fighter jet and sensitive US weapons, appear authentic, according to a Chinese information security expert.

A user claiming to be a Russian pilot, identifying himself as Ivan Ivanov with the handle Fighterbomber, stated on the Telegram encrypted messaging service they had received 250 gigabytes of US military data from an American company.

On July 2, Fighterbomber posted some of the documents to their channel, which has more than 500,000 subscribers before uploading more of the leaked data the next day. Some of the uploaded documents remain available for download.”

I don’t disagree, but as evidenced by public reaction in Russia, the kherson and Kharkiv debacles by the Russian actually for a period moved public sentiment

Large losses of men abs equipment seem to be acceptable at this time, but actual territorial losses add kirch bridge and some massive aircraft loses and we might see the end of putin regime

Now the issue of the devil we know… does come to play

It is a question of supply chains

18APR2024 By the beginning of 2026, the European Commission reckons the bloc will be producing 2 million shells a year. But one of the main bottlenecks to faster production is the shortage of propellant and explosive powder.

The European Commission is looking to help: Nearly half of the €500 million in EU subsidies under the Act in Support of Ammunition Production (ASAP) were allocated to projects aimed at increasing powder production.

Propellant powder is made out of nitrocellulose, among other things, which itself is made from cotton fibers that mostly come from China.

29MAR2024 U.S., German and Taiwanese firms made nitrocellulose that was shipped to Russia, much of it through one Turkish company, despite sanctions

This company should be investigated https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitro_Qu%C3%ADmica

Retaliation must hit the RuZZian homeland.

“They (Europeans) pledged to make a million shells for UKR, but made only 300k”

There seems to be lessons learned. Germany recently awarded Rheinmetall (the 800lb gorilla of European Artillery shell production) their biggest order in its modern history. Rheinmetall has already established a new soup to nuts production facility in Germany, and is establishing several other new production lines around Europe (I believe Lithuania, Ukraine and Greece; but I’m not sure). Spain is increasing its production, as are the Nordics.

It is a further development of the Defense Industrial policy initiative previously agreed upon and announced for Europe. They are progressing to flesh out the details and coordinate/rationalize the various national efforts supporting those objectives.

I think that this planning initiative for industrial bases also grew out kind of bottom up from the capability coalitions. They had to scramble in the short term to hobble together wartime capability for Ukraine. Now they are girding for a longer war in Ukraine, and the possibilities of having to fend for themselves if Trump cuts off American support, and the contingency of a possible direct war with Russia.

Many of the newer NATO members have a real prepper mentality about war with Russia - Poland, the Baltics, Finland and Sweden, etc.. Many planning staffs are engaged with the problem, and the budgets are rising pretty quickly across the board.

“Russia Seeks to Boost Trump in 2024 Election”

...and that’s why it pays for Trump to string Putin along, and keep his hopes up.

It is Trump’s last election - he won’t need Pootie again, and can throw him under the bus anytime after the election.

Not exactly sure what you are saying
But I will say these intelligence agencies are still the same ones that push laptop Russian disinformation, and pushed the dossier

I don’t think the Russians want Trump anymore or less than xiden, IMO they want Trump less, what they want is to sew devision and conflict in US

In addition, the Kyiv Independent reports:

“In the coming months, Canada, Norway, Spain and the United Kingdom will also contribute to the additional provision of “dozens” of tactical air defense systems to Ukraine, including NASAMS, HAWKs, IRIS T-SLM, IRIS T-SLS, and Gepard systems, according to the agreement...

...Biden said, “The United States will make sure that when we export critical air defense interceptors, Ukraine goes to the front of the line.”

Biden added that Ukraine is also set to receive “hundreds” of additional interceptors of the next year.

No definitive timeline was provided as to how quickly Ukraine can expect to receive the air defense systems. The agreement noted that there would be an additional announcement “this year of additional strategic air defense systems for Ukraine.”

so far, so good

“UK’s Keir Starmer urges allies to hike defense spending”

...

“The new PM also launched a review, which will start next week, into Britain’s military capabilities.

The comprehensive review will set out a “roadmap” for his government to spend 2.5 percent of GDP on defense — a hike which would be worth tens of billions of pounds, and for which military chiefs have been pushing. “

I was more worried about France’s defense position under Le Pen than the UK’s position under Labour.

All good on both fronts.

“Retaliation must hit the RuZZian homeland.” (for sabotage attacks against US military personnel and facilities)

That is how that game is played.

Russia is already getting hit pretty hard, and pretty regularly, in their homeland. I would expect that there would have to be a significant, painful, step up on that front to reciprocate for attacks on Americans. Ukraine would be happy to pull the trigger, if we put the gun in their hand.
