Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine (2 year anniversary)

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

NAFO expansion is non-negotiable.

What will come out of the NATO Summit, now underway in DC (9-11 July)?

Kyiv Independent discusses CNN’s report:

“Ukraine’s path to joining NATO will be defined as “irreversible” in a draft text of the alliance’s joint communique at the summit in Washington, CNN reported on July 8, citing three undisclosed sources.

Kyiv did not receive the much-desired invitation nor a firm deadline to join the alliance during the 2023 NATO summit in Vilnius, even though NATO took steps to tighten cooperation.

Ukraine has voiced hope that NATO’s summit scheduled on July 9–11 will bring a more definite signal about its future membership in the alliance. American officials made it clear that the country is unlikely to receive an invitation during the conference.

Partners assured Kyiv that the event would define a specific position for Ukraine’s membership in the alliance, namely its irreversibility and the roadmap toward it, Olha Stefanishyna, the deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration, said in late May.

CNN reported that the question of how strong guarantees Ukraine should receive has become a key source of debate inside the alliance.

The final version of the document may contain changes, CNN wrote, but the presence of the “irreversible” Ukraine’s accession to NATO would be “a significant signal to Kyiv and Moscow.”

The White House supports this wording, as long as the document also confirms that Ukraine should continue to work on democratic reforms, an unnamed U.S. official told the news channel.

U.S. and German officials suggested that the communique should describe a “bridge” to NATO membership for Ukraine, while many European NATO members stressed the need for strong language regarding Kyiv’s prospects, according to CNN.

An unnamed U.S. senior administration official said that the alliance would make “significant new announcements about how we’re increasing NATO’s military, political, and financial support for Ukraine.”

This should include “positive news” on Ukraine’s request for seven additional Patriot air defense systems, said Julianna Smith, the U.S. ambassador to NATO.”

[ Ukrainian Bradley Units Hunt Down And Erase Broken Russian Forces Amidst Deadly Minefields ]

Today [ July 8 ], there is a lot of news from the Kurakhove direction.

Here, in the past several weeks, Ukrainian forces have consistently thwarted all Russian attempts to advance further west from Novomykhailivka by employing multi-level tactics designed to exhaust enemy forces and undermine their combat capability.

This relentless defense has placed significant pressure on Russian commanders, pressuring them to seek alternative strategies to breach Ukrainian defense lines. Consequently, they decided to open a new vector of attack to the south of Novomykhailivka to find a breakthrough.

Firstly, to achieve this, they decided to use the small village of Solodke as a launchpad for a surprise attack west of Vodyane. The initial Russian assault group consisted of 2 tanks, as seen in this geolocated video. While attempting to cross the open fields between the two villages and reach a tree line that could serve as a position, they suddenly encountered a Ukrainian minefield.

The second tank exploded first, and moments later, the leading armored vehicle also hit an antitank mine, bursting into flames. Although this attack ended in disaster for the Russians, they later managed to capture the tree line and began fortifying their position in anticipation of the Ukrainian response.

The Ukrainians understood that they could not allow the Russians to establish a foothold in the tree line, as it would pose a significant threat to their defense lines near Kostyantynivka and potentially expose their southern flank.

Consequently, they responded almost immediately by deploying a Bradley armored fighting vehicle to spearhead a counterattack aimed at clearing the Russian presence from the tree line.

The geolocated footage shows the Bradley advancing at high speed while delivering suppressing fire from its main gun. The intense and devastating effect of this firepower is evident, as the vehicle gets within several meters of the tree line, continuing to inflict damage on the Russians from very close range.

Subsequently, the Ukrainian infantry assault group disembarks and begins clearing the trenches using various weapons, including grenades.

Moments later, the task is accomplished, and another Bradley arrives, delivering additional troops and evacuating a wounded soldier. Russian military bloggers later acknowledged that the outcome of this counterattack was successful, with the Ukrainians successfully recapturing the positions in the tree line.

The failure of this Russian effort pushed their commanders to again attempt a direct assault against Kostyantynivka. As you can remember, most of the previous attacks in this direction happened north of the small lake that divides the village from the small settlement of Paraskoviivka. This time, however, the Russians chose to strike from the south side of the lake.

A geolocated video from the area shows one Russian armored fighting vehicle attempting to cross the field using a similar approach to the earlier Ukrainian attack. Although the vehicle manages to advance slightly, it soon hits a mine and explodes, prompting the surviving crew members to abandon the remnants and seek cover.

Minutes later, a second vehicle is destroyed by Ukrainian defenders using an antitank guided missile, and it is subsequently finished off with a kamikaze drone.

The next scene in the clip reveals the rapid escalation of the situation, as we see the smoking remains of 6 or 7 Russian armored vehicles in flames, all struck and destroyed in the same area, effectively turning it into a death zone. Several other huge explosions can be seen in the video, showcasing how effective the Ukrainian defense is at rebuffing this new Russian endeavor.

Ukrainians then decided to maintain their proactive campaign to prevent the Russians from amassing large forces by targeting their positions, hideouts, personnel, and vehicles.

Soldiers from the Ukrainian 79th Air Assault Brigade published several videos showcasing their engagements with various enemy targets in the area.

The first video highlights the skillful work of their FPV drone operators, who are seen hunting Russian troops in open fields and among the ruins of Paraskoviivka. The small village, offering almost no cover due to the intense fighting, became a focal point for Ukrainian attacks.

To eliminate any potential threats, the Ukrainians opted to demolish several remaining larger buildings with guided air bombs after detecting Russian presence and activity in and around them. These powerful strikes by the Ukrainian forces once again sabotaged the already exhausted Russian troops in the region, effectively preventing them from continuing their attempts to advance westward.

Overall, the trend in the Kurakhove direction remains unfavorable for the Russians as they failed to take more ground west of Novomykhailivka, and all gains were quickly lost due to intensive Ukrainian counterattacks.

At the same time, the Ukrainians continue to not only thwart all Russian offensives, but also to proactively prevent them from forming a larger assault group and securing positions with extensive drone, artillery, and air strikes.

In the long term, this is not only exhausting the Russian forces to an alarming level of degradation, but also allowing Ukrainians to rotate their troops and conduct even more daring blitz operations.

Enemy drones attacked an oil depot and a military unit in the Volgograd region

The situation is difficult in the Volgograd region - several drones immediately broke through our air defense and attacked an oil depot in the city of Kalach-on-Don. According to our information, the oil depot is almost completely lost. Moreover, one of the drones attacked a local military unit.

It is preliminary known that ten people died. But local authorities claim that the main problem is severe damage to the tank farm. Our interlocutors do not say why it happened that the drones were not shot down.

There is a threat of social explosion in Dagestan. Measures have already been taken

Due to calls for participation in extremist actions in Dagestan, the work of the WhatsApp messenger began to slow down. This started on July 7th and in general users are complaining about an increased number of problems.

According to our information, these are not the first and will not be the last restrictions that are being introduced in the republic due to the increased threat of sabotage and extremism. In particular, the security services say that there is growing discontent in Dagestan caused by the ban on niqabs [ https://t.me/kremlin_secrets/4324 ].

Also, residents of the republic do not like the fact that terrorist attacks and shootouts with terrorists have begun to occur more often in large cities.

At the same time, rumors are being started at the level of local authorities that the order to rein in the republic was ordered from Moscow, and proposals are allegedly being made from Grozny to bring Chechen security forces into Dagestan. So to speak, to restore order.

At the same time, the head of Dagestan is sending signals to Moscow that the situation in the republic is under control. The FSB does not agree with the assessment of local authorities and insists on tightening control [ https://t.me/kremlin_secrets/4335 ], additional counterintelligence actions and selective detentions of local activists.

The FSB also notes that there is a threat of terrorist attacks in Makhachkala and other cities in the second half of July.

I’m of a different opinion. (Born that way, just ask my wife).

I think the key to victory is to kill RuZZians by the thousands, every week. Week after week, until they’ve had enough, and quit. Quit and withdraw.

Going on the offense isn’t required. Just keep killing them. At some point, the mothers, fathers, and children will demand an end to the madness.

Hotel Ukraine. You can check in but you can never leave.

“Turns out that among the Russian soldiers who came to Ukraine to “earn extra money”, there are many who think that they can return home at any time as soon as their “contract” ends. Russian blogger and volunteer Anastasia Kashevarova speaks about this misconception.

According to her, she receives a huge number of messages from surprised Russians who thought that they could serve for six months and leave. For some reason, they pay little attention to the terms and conditions for use of their own lives by Putin, and sign anything.”

FTA: Russian forces have improved their ballistic and cruise missiles, making them more difficult to detect and shoot down...

I doubt that ruzzia has improved their ballistic and cruise missiles.

Ukraine does not have Patriot PAC-3.

PAC-2s have limited capability against ballistic (hypersonic) missiles.

PAC-2s are not Hit-to-Kill. Missiles that are intercepted by PAC-2s could still explode High Order.

FTA: The Air Force earlier reported that Ukrainian forces downed 30 out of the 38 missiles launched on Ukraine in the morning of July 8.

F-16s, additional NASAMs, HAWKs, IRIS-Ts, & Flakpanzer Gepards will help against cruise missile.

More Patriots will help against ballistic and cruise missiles.

“U.S. Officials Say Russia Is Unlikely to Take Much More Ukrainian Territory”

“Russia is unlikely to make significant territorial gains in Ukraine in the coming months as its poorly trained forces struggle to break through Ukrainian defenses that are now reinforced with Western munitions, U.S. officials say.

Through the spring and early summer, Russian troops tried to take territory outside the city of Kharkiv and renew a push in eastern Ukraine, to capitalize on their seizure of Avdiivka. Russia has suffered thousands of casualties in the drive while gaining little new territory.

Russia’s problems represent a significant change in the dynamic of the war, which had favored Moscow in recent months. Russian forces continue to inflict pain, but their incremental advances have been slowed by the Ukrainians’ hardened lines.”

Sudzha on Google Maps

FPV video shows a direct hit on a substation transformer.

Ground video shows an amazing amount of black smoke from the attack.

My guess is the attack was carried out by partisans who are now back in Ukraine.

I wonder if the attack was carried out using Ukraine's Lancet clone.

I doubt that ruzzia has improved their ballistic and cruise missiles.

I agree it's unlikely the missiles themselves have been significantly improved. A huge portion of the effectiveness of cruise missiles is mission planning. Using low altitude and terrain, as well as avoiding detection by flying in the shadow or cutout zones of know air defense radars greatly increases the probability of a successful strike.

Ukraine seems to get pretty good I&W of air launched missiles, so scrambling f-16s would be a big help (especially with Swedish donated AWACS to control them). In addition to more air defense systems, a significant number of mobile radar systems like TRMS-4d, MPQ-64, GM200, etc that could integrate with UKRs Integrated Air and Missile Defense System would make it much more difficult for Russia's cruise missile mission planners to find holes in their air defense.

RUSI, a UK Military think tank, recently published this article (https://www.rusi.org/explore-our-research/publications/occasional-papers/methodology-degrading-arms-russian-federation ), recommending a more proactive, less classified and more widely coordinated effort to target sanctions, to impede Russia’s Defense Industrial Base.

Stand up a dedicated unclassified fusion center to rapidly develop targeting, and help coordinate action.

Good idea.

Our (US) Department of the Treasury has dedicated folks working to sanction Russia’s war machine, led by Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo, as do other Allied Nations. The RUSI proposed approach could augment such efforts with more rapid and widespread additional “crowd sourcing” of efforts. Let everybody know what needs hitting most, and how to best hit it, at the unclassified level.

I hope our Treasury and other relevant officials are reading the link you posted, as this is a fight we cannot afford to lose. It is important that concerned officials in offices other than Military look at the more subtle ways that these sanctions can be implemented and maintained.

As an example, someone pointed out to me that something (I think, nitrocellulose) is in short supply, at least here in the US, BUT somehow is being supplied to RUssia from Germany. Making that item hard to get by Russia might help reduce their shell production and would not require bombing any factories or supply centers and roads or railroads.

I saw a recent YouTube video with our friend Chuck Pfarrer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBEc-A98acY, @13:18). He expressed very high confidence that Russia was going to lose this war in Ukraine, and have to withdraw (in a couple of more years).

He said, “I’m promising you, I know how this war is going to end” (a last Russian General being videoed heading back across the border into Russia).

I have little doubt that Russian inflation is well above the 8% figure. Regarding Turkey, I wonder how much of their economic problem is being caused by reaction to the issues caused by that horrific earthquake they had not long ago.
