Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine (2 year anniversary)

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When a vehicle is captured and then lost in service with its new owners, it is only added as a loss of the original operator to avoid double listings. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it's not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

Lukashenko asked Putin to give him a “Hazel Tree” for Christening

He said this during a telephone conversation with our president. “Vladimir Vladimirovich congratulated Lukashenko on his Epiphany. He thanked him and offered to give him a gift for the holiday.

Transfer “Oreshnik” to Belarus in the coming days. Vladimir Vladimirovich was surprised by such a proposal. And he said that these missiles would be in Belarus as planned . But there is no way to transfer them right now,” a source in the Kremlin told us.

He is outraged by Alexander Grigorievich’s request and believes that he simply wanted to “show off at the expense of Russia.”

“Lukashenko has elections soon (January 26, - ed.). I think he would like to show off in front of them, show how tough he is, how Putin is arming him, and as a result, Belarus will threaten the whole of Europe under such a strong leader. It won’t work,” the source in the Kremlin emphasized.

Let us note that it is planned to place Oreshniki in Belarus no earlier than the second half of 2025. **At the same time, many military personnel are against it and believe that Lukashenko, after receiving such a formidable weapon, may resort to provocations - even to the point of attacking Moscow with these missiles.**

“Let’s talk about mobilization in February”

A source in the Ministry of Defense made this request to us in response to this post . There, we recall, we clearly showed why mobilization in Russia is being prepared. And what are the options?

“You are right in many ways, but please wait a little. There will be more clarity on this issue in February, then let’s talk,” our interlocutor noted.

Another representative of the Ministry of Defense explained the situation:

“Vladimir Vladimirovich ( as we wrote - ed. ) was given proposals for mobilization. Gerasimov conveyed it, but before that he agreed on the main points with Andrei Removich Belousov.

“Plus, there are a number of factors - Trump, for example. And not only. We are waiting for the president’s response, but for now I see no point in discussing this topic.”

He did not go into details of the document handed over to Vladimir Putin. He only said that the military was proposing “moderate mobilization”, in which the army would be replenished with no more than 290-320,000 new fighters.

Putin was surprised that he was not invited to Trump’s inauguration

A source in the AP told us about this.

“Vladimir Vladimirovich, of course, would not fly to America. But a polite gesture in the form of an invitation would not be out of place. But okay, don’t worry about it,” he said.

At the same time, the channel’s interlocutor believes that the lack of an invitation should not in any way affect possible negotiations between Putin and Trump in the future.

In response to our remark that foreign leaders are almost never invited to the inaugurations of US Presidents, he replied that “in this case an exception could be made.”

“Fire reported near aviation plant in Russia’s Tatarstan amid drone attack”

A fire erupted in the city of Kazan in Russia’s Tatarstan republic overnight on Jan. 20 amid a Ukrainian drone attack on the city, Russian Telegram channels reported.

Videos posted to social media appear to show a large fire ablaze following a drone attack. Multiple explosions were reported in the city around 5:30 a.m. local time.

Reports indicate that the explosions and fire originated in the Aviastroitelny district of the city, reportedly targeting the Kazan Aviation Plant. The plant, which was sanctioned by the European Union in 2023, is known for manufacturing Tu-160 strategic and Tu-22 long-ranger bomber aircraft, among other civilian aircraft.”

EU fast tracking the cutoff of Russian energy, to free up market share for the Trump flood of liquid gold. Thanks Vlad, you schmuck.

Kyiv Independent reports:

EU plans to eliminate Russian fossil fuels, aims to end gas imports

The European Commission is developing a strategy to eliminate Russian fossil fuels from the European Union’s energy market. However, gas deliveries from Russia to Europe persist despite the EU’s efforts, and Brussels is determined to halt this, Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, the EU’s spokesperson for energy and housing, said.

Speaking at a press briefing in Brussels on Jan. 20, Itkonen noted that work on a comprehensive roadmap to fully phase out Russian fossil fuels is ongoing. “This initiative was announced as a priority for the Energy Commission to deliver within its first 100 days, so we still have a little time before the deadline,” she said, according to Interfax news agency.

Itkonen highlighted that the EU has already made substantial progress in reducing its dependence on Russian energy. “We have significantly reduced imports of Russian gas, eliminated all coal imports from Russia, and cut most oil imports,” she explained.

Despite these achievements, Russian gas continues to be present on the EU market, which remains a concern. “This is an issue we aim to address in the roadmap that will be unveiled in the coming weeks,” Itkonen added.”

Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, January 20, 2025

Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on January 20 that Russian forces suffered more than 434,000 casualties in 2024 — 150,000 of which were personnel killed in action.[1] Syrskyi stated on December 30, 2024, that Russian forces suffered 427,000 casualties in 2024, and Syrskyi’s January 20 number likely reflects additional losses that Russian forces incurred in the final days of 2024.[2] ISW continues to assess that the Russian military command was likely willing to accept record levels of casualties in Fall–Winter 2024, especially from September to November 2024, in order to achieve relatively larger territorial gains from continued infantry-led, attritional assaults.[3]

Ukrainian strikes against Russian defense industrial base (DIB) targets are reportedly affecting Russian forces’ combat capabilities. Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi stated on January 20 that Ukrainian strikes on Russia's military facilities, including oil refineries and those that produce ammunition, missile components, and dual-use products, have significantly disrupted Russian forces’ combat capabilities and ability to maintain a high intensity of combat operations.[15] Syrskyi noted that Russian forces are using half as many artillery shells per day than they were an unspecified period of time ago. Syrskyi emphasized that Ukrainian forces target Russia's ammunition, missile component, and dual-use production enterprises as well as oil refining facilities that support Russia's war efforts. ISW has observed reports from Ukrainian personnel in the field noting decreases in Russia's artillery usage and of Russia's overall artillery advantage in some areas.[16]

Moldovan and Transnistrian authorities continue efforts to supply Transnistria with European gas. Russian and Transnistrian authorities were reportedly recently discussing the possibility of Russia buying gas for Transnistria on the European spot market through Moldovan gas company Natural Gaz DC between January and April 2025, but Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean noted on January 16 that only Moldovan gas company Moldovagaz has the authority to deliver gas to Transnistria.[17] Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky stated on January 20 that Transnistria will allow Moldovagaz to supply Transnistria with gas, presumably from Europe, despite initially refusing offers in early January 2025 from Moldovagaz to help Transnistria obtain gas from European platforms.[18] Krasnoselsky claimed that Transnistria can guarantee payment – possibly referring to Moscow's recent reported proposal to use Russian budget funds to buy European gas for Transnistria’s domestic consumption.[19] Krasnoselsky claimed that Transnistrian gas company Tiraspoltransgaz sent a letter to Moldovagaz on January 18 requesting that Moldovagaz outline the procedure for supplying gas to Transnistria.[20] Moldovan President Maia Sandu responded on January 20 that Krasnoselsky's proposal does not appear to be about Transnistria’s purchase of gas through Moldovagaz but that Krasnoselsky rather is proposing that “someone else” buys the gas and delivers it to Moldovan territory, after which Moldovagaz transports it through Moldova to Transnistria.[21] Sandu stated that Moldovan authorities are currently determining which companies would be involved in this process, since Moldovagaz can only work with companies that do not violate Moldovan law or international sanctions.

A Russian milblogger and former Storm-Z instructor repeated on January 20 complaints that Russian milbloggers first issued in May 2024 about insufficient quality controls on Russian artillery shells.[69] The milblogger claimed that the inconsistent amount of gunpowder in artillery shells is causing Russian artillery to perform inconsistently and inaccurately and that the Russian military command has not fixed the issue but instead continues to prohibit soldiers from disassembling munitions and weighing the gunpowder inside. Russian milbloggers criticized the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) in May 2024 for similar gunpowder inconsistencies and for failing to address this issue.[70]

Kremlin newswire TASS reported on January 20 that law enforcement officers in the Tuva Republic opened an investigation after footage emerged showing Russian military police beating wounded soldiers from unit 55115 (55th Motorized Rifle Brigade, 41st Combined Arms Army, Central Military District [CMD]).[73] The press service of the CMD stated that Russian authorities detained a servicemember suspected of beating a fellow soldier in Tuva.[74] A Russian insider source claimed that similar beatings in the Southern Military District (SMD) are common and systemic and that such beatings usually go unpunished due to a lack of video evidence.[75]

Let's review this month of burning oil depots and refineries in Russia.

In the second half of 2024, the area of drone hits covered the entire central part of Russia up to the Volga river. Since 2025, drones targeted oil depots in Engels and Voronezh region several times in a row. Russian electronic warfare and air defense systems weren't able do much about it.

▪️ On January 4, drones flew more than 900 kilometers and successfully hit the largest seaport in Russia, Ust-Luga, in Russia's Leningrad region.

▪️ On January 8, drones flew about 1,000 kilometers and hit an oil depot in Engels that provides fuel for a military airfield.

▪️ On January 10, fires broke out in Russia's Rostov region due to "drone debris".

▪️ On January 11, Russian-occupied Crimea and a number of Russian cities were under attack. There was a fire in the port area in Novorossiysk, which is 500 kilometers from the border.

▪️ On January 14, drones attacked an oil depot in Engels, the Orgsintez plant in Kazan, the Saratov oil refinery and the Bryansk chemical plant.

▪️ On January 15, an oil depot started burning in Russia's Voronezh region, about 200 km from the Ukrainian border.

▪️ On January 16, having flown more than 400 km, drones reached the Tambov gunpowder plant.

▪️ On January 17, drones again attacked the oil depot in Engels, where Russians had just managed to put out a six-day fire. It was the third attack in two weeks.

▪️ On January 18, drones attacked oil depots in Russia's Tula and Kaluga regions.

▪️ On January 20, facilities of an aircraft plant in Kazan (1000 km from the border) came under drone attack. Drones also paid a visit to a familiar oil depot in Russia's Voronezh region.

▪️ On January 21, drones hit military industry facilities in the Russian city of Smolensk, 300 km from the border.

Ukraine says US-made F-16 fighter jet crashed, killing a top pilot

A top Ukrainian pilot was killed when a US-made F-16 fighter jet crashed on Monday, just weeks after the long-awaited planes arrived in the country a Ukrainian military source told CNN.

The Ukrainian Defence Forces do not believe pilot error was behind the incident, the source added.

The pilot, Oleksiy Mes known as “Moonfish,” was killed in the crash while “repelling the biggest ever aerial attack” by Russia against Ukraine, said the source, adding that the pilot was buried on Thursday.
