About 50% are owner operators (indie). Some of those are contracted to companies and have little say on their loads and destination. But I think the indie number is higher than 16%. They have plenty of loads choices so staying out of NYC will not hurt the pocketbook.

Even at 16%, many independents avoid NYC anyway. The boycott of the independents will have their contracts moved over to company trucking, so it won’t matter.
The author doesn’t understand the industry has substantially changed in the past 40 years.
It would only take 4% of total trucking action for significant impact.

Truckers will know who is delivering loads to NYC and those rigs may have problems if they stop and leave their rig unattended for even a short period. They will be treated just like Union Scabs.
