Rep. Mike Gallagher, one of the three Republicans who voted against impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas this week, announced he won’t seek reelection this year.
Mr. Gallagher, Wisconsin Republican, said on X Saturday that he intends for his eight-year tenure in Congress to be a “high-intensity deployment,” similar to his career in the Marine Corps.
“Electoral politics was never supposed to be a career and, trust me, Congress is no place to grow old,” Mr. Gallagher said. “And so, with a heavy heart, I have decided not to run for reelection.”
The 39-year-old lawmaker was considered a rising star in the Republican Party, building a brand as a top national security and foreign policy hawk. Last year, he was tapped to chair the high-profile Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party.

What a DISAPPOINTMENT he turned out to be!! he had a GREAT FUTURE!
Is he compromised; WI must do better.
Maybe it’s best he leave.
Blackmailed, I suspect....to deliver the vote.
He got his rino pockets filled.
Impeachment is too easy for Homeland Security Snakehead. Security??? Who will protectus from our protectors?
It is amazing how many congressmen decide to retire right after they do something that goes against what their constituents want so there are calls for them to be primaried. They must know they really screwed up and will lose their next election.
We can’t win with these dozen and a half or so RINOs stabbing us in the back every other week.
Todd Young aka Turd Scum is another one.
We need a coup of the Republican leadership, bloodless if possible of course.
Is there a decent candidate in the wings to run for that seat?
Here’s what the locals should do.
First, refuse to allow Deep State to pick your candidates for you.
Second, if nobody decent will volunteer to run, find someone for each party who will run as a “none of the above candidate”. Someone who will refuse to serve after winning. Hold special election after special election until someone other than a Deep Stater gets in.
Well...let’s look at HIS financial records!
One can only imagine the volume of phone calls and emails he got that would have made it pretty obvious his career was finished.
But then that really makes him look like a dolt. What did he think would happen? Is he really that far out of touch?
Snort let the door hit you.
Bridges, once burned, are hard to cross back over later.
And this was a bridge too far that caught flame after passage.
He will get filthy rich as a lobbyist.
Hope he goes to Washington DC the day it gets nuked. /spit
Watch and see what board of directors job he ends up with in the next few months. That’ll tell you who bought his vote in this Mayorkas impeachment.
So which came first? Vote or Retirement Decision?
