Time to Repeal the 17th ..and return the Senate to the state legislatures

I have long thought that when the ultimate history is written of the demise of our Republic, that the year 1913 will be pointed to as the key year that pointed towards its death.

  1. The creation of the Federal reserve
  2. Ratification of the 16th amendment allowing Income Tax
  3. Ratification of the 17th amendment which allowed the direct election of senatecritters

Of these, the most overlooked is often the 17th amendment, even though it completely reorganized change fundamentally changed the nature of our Republic.

The first two decades of the XX Century, called by some historians the “Progressive Era”, produced four constitutional amendments. ALL of them were bad, and had bad (un?)intended consequences. Amendment XVIII was rightly repealed. Amendments XVI, XVII, and XIX also need to be repealed. Starve the federal leviathan, return power to the States, limit voting to those paying for the government.

The 17A pulled the keystone from our Framers’ Constitution.

But too many Freepers, the ignorant among us, oppose using the means to repeal the 17th.
