My guess is OPSEC, COMSEC, possibly some ELINT, and partisans were involved.

Tragedy in the DPR. More than 100 of our military personnel died
Unfortunately, the number of victims of the enemy attack on our military in the area of the village of Trudovskoye in the DPR turned out to be much higher than initially reported.
According to the final data that we received from several sources in the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense, 103 people died. More than 40 were injured. Such figures were obtained after experts worked at the scene of the tragedy. In particular, they collected all the fragments of the bodies of the victims of this strike.
The enemy most likely fired on aim. Now they cannot find three soldiers who were supposed to be at the formation. They are neither among the dead nor among those who survived.
Whether disciplinary measures will be taken against those who allowed such a large number of military personnel to build up and actually brought them under enemy missiles, all sources find it difficult to answer.
