DeSantis moves the goalposts for Iowa caucuses at FOX News town hall

DES MOINES, Iowa – With six days to go until Iowa's caucuses kick off the Republican presidential nominating calendar, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis no longer predicts victory and instead vows that "we're going to do well here."

DeSantis, at a Fox News town hall on Tuesday in Iowa's capital and largest city, emphasized that the battle for the GOP nomination "is a long process" and pledged that he's "in it for the long haul."

"We’re going to win Iowa. We’ve got the organization in place," the governor declared in a Fox News Digital interview in Bettendorf, Iowa a week before Christmas.

But on Tuesday, when asked by Fox News' "Special Report" chief political anchor Bret Baier and "The Story" executive editor and anchor Martha MacCallum — the moderators of the town hall — about his finish in a state that many consider make-or-break for him, DeSantis twice answered "we're going to do well."

"I kind of like having lower expectations, to be honest with you," he added. "I've been an underdog my whole life and everything I've ever done."

Asked if his campaign would advance to New Hampshire regardless of his finish in Iowa, DeSantis reiterated "yes, of course."

You said” Every Republican voter who wants to see Trump in a traditional forum isn’t patriotic and isn’t MAGA. Screw those people. He’s far above all the riff-raff and doesn’t need to lower himself.”

I am a patriotic American, a former veteran, and a long time Republican. I voted for Trump twice so far. But I am not an ass-kisser like so many of the Trump supporters on this forum, which I suspect have been infiltrated by paid political operatives of President Trump. I will support Trump a 3rd time in the general election if he makes it there, but I think Trump is not showing his best by not deigning to appear in the Republican debates this year. And your calling Republican voters “riff-raff” says more about you and your mindset than it does about what’s fair for Republican voters.

I am a patriotic America and I think these debates are a gottcha tool used by the left to get talking points to attack Republicans.
There is nothing learned about candidates in these dog & pony shows. Anyone who has too wash their hair gets more accomplished than the audience. These debates are an embarrassment to the American political process.
Attacking Trump for being smart & self confident enough\h to opt out is an exercise in self deception and fools no one but yourself.

Your name calling claiming I have TDS is rather foolish,

🙄

I think I’ve had enough of Trump and his idiot supporters. If Trump wins the Republican nomination, I’m going to sit the 2024 election out. I’ve had enough of the mean-spirited man and those mean-spirited people who support him. Go pound sand.

I am banned from X so I can’t read the link, but if DeSantis says it, he must have good grounds for it—all the noise of “meatball” and other demeaning names used by Trump and his sycophants notwithstanding.

Governor DeSantis proves himself to be articulate and well reasoned in his analysis of the Democrat attack on free elections. I can’t help but contrast him to the almost- embarrassingly inarticulate President Trump (and most of his sycophants as well.)

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4206526/posts?page=19#19

Need I look for more of your viewpoint?

So, like with desantis, we have to ask in which case are you telling the truth?

The first. In the second quote, I was pissed off and spoke too soon.

But the fact that you took the time to research my past posts tells me that either you have too much time on your hands, or more likely, you are paid operative of the Trump campaign, stalking the pages of this forum and attacking any post critical of your employer.

I am not sure what your point is. If it is to point out past posts where I am critical of Trump, then you’ve done a fair job.

You are incorrect. The debates give people (like me) who are too busy to follow politics daily, an opportunity to see the candidates in a forum where they need to think on their feet and interact with each other. It helps us form an opinion about the candidates.

President Trump, by not participating in the debates, is giving the middle finger to voters like me, as well as looking like he is afraid to be challenged.

“I feel DeSantis is a superior candidate to the deeply-flawed Trump”
“To be a “superior candidate,” one’s candidacy has to be successful somewhere on planet earth.”

Instead of “superior candidate” I probably should have said “better conservative”.

I think DeSantis is more capable than Trump, and a better conservative, because of his success in Florida in confronting the left with concrete steps like 1) protecting children from Homosexual indoctrination and sexual mutilation by the Democrats 2) Putting Disney on the run for their attempts to interfere in Florida politics 3) Withdrawing state pension funds from Blackrock because of their support of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria.

I like DeSantis and while he is much more of a reserved kind of person than Trump, I feel he better reflects conservative values.

Seriously, don’t you have anything better to do in your life than go rifling through someone else’s FR account because they think Trump not debating is disrespectful to voters?

You are more obsessed with Ron DeSantis than anyone else on FR, which means you don’t believe the garbage polls either.

Just pointing out where people do things or make claims that don’t match their posting histories..

And I’ve already looked at this account’s history, and seen that it’s an account that went inactive after the 2020 election, then started up again.

And it appears that what it does is troll and post anti/nevertrump stuff while promoting desanctus.

So it’s likely a team desanctus social media influencer or volunteer, posting stuff.

The DeSantis campaign always had that “political consultant” feel to it.

Those who have worked in campaigns over the years understand what that means on the ground.

Everything is half done—astroturfed.

The candidate is poorly prepared and over-reacts moment to moment—ignoring even their own talking points in order to focus on the crisis of the moment.

Then their consultants create new crises—and the campaign swirls down the toilet bowl with crisis after crisis.

The next step is declaring “victory” after each humiliating defeat.

It is only a matter of time before this campaign puts itself out of its misery.

Tennessee will vote Heavily For Trump. Vote your conscience but don’t be
angry when Trump smashes Meathead in Tennessee, my home state too.
I doubt Meathead will still be in the race by then.

Your deductive reasoning skills suck lol.

Nobody supporting DeSantis is the kind of person that will ever look through someone’s FR account, because you aren’t of any interest and we have actual lives.

DeSantis is a good governor because he has the cooperation and backing and loyalty of those around him. He inherited this from Rick Scott and all the previous Republican governors ahead of him . (30 years continuous )If he makes it into the White House it will be an awakening to find out how many enemies will be there as Trump did.
