Hope and Change. I remember talking to people who supported him and said; "We need change", that was it, their total reasoning other than as you sad they liked him. And yes, he was/is a total scumbag opportunist.
Exactly. I have that exact recollection. I was having lunch at a diner in L.A., where I was living at the time, and the waitress asked me who I was voting for. I told her Bush and listed a number of reasons that seemed important at the time - He wants to lower the capital gains tax, He supports a strong military, and blaming him for reneging on “No new taxes” is a poor reason to vote for Clinton who was openly promising to do that very thing, etc. Her eyes kind of glazed over and her response was, “But don’t you think it’s time for a change”? I smiled and said, “Yeah, I guess your right. I’d never thought about that” and went back to eating my lunch.
