So, Warner Bros, in one of these sketchy incidents, that keep happening of late, “overestimated” the weekend numbers for “The Color Purple” by over $2 million.
Warners had originally stated that ‘Color Purple’ made $13.8 million, but the actual number is said to be around $11.7 million

The nice thing about vinyl records and a turn table , was you could start the song where you wanted and get your dog , your job, and the pickup and end the song on a happy note 😛
Perhaps one reason they are so bad is that it's almost impossible to come up with an original story idea.
There are so many good movies from the past, there isn't really too much need for new ones.
Unless, of course, someone somehow starts coming out with frankly non-PC, non-woke movies.
Movies about things that we just can't talk about.
Like honor killings of daughters in certain "protected communities," for instance.
Or an honest look at the problems of inner-city schools.
Such movies would have to be distributed in channels similar to the way pornographic films were handled, sixty years ago.
Oh wait a second, I mentioned a monkey in the same context as people in a novel by Alice Walker.
I guess that makes me a raaaacisss.
There are a lot of good movies to be made, that people will pay for, but Hollywood is trapped.
They want theater receipts or crap Netflix porn.
I give an example; Dune. I read the book in one weekend.
the first major Dune movie did about 10% of the story.
The second recent movie cut it in half expecting you will pay to see the second part.
Film the entire story do an intermission such as Ben Hur
did.
Dune is a long story! and sell it online screw the movie theaters. You can’t even drink a beer in them and 10$ day old popcorn is a joke. Only idiots go there anymore.
for content;
Why not try the Foundation series? or the full Moby dick?
there are lots of good wholesome stories out there.
quit pushing political unwanted crap down peoples throats!
PS we all have flat screen TV’s with good sound, can sit in clean recliners, drink beer, and enjoy a good movie, at home.
But it’s getting cheaper and cheaper to make movies.
High-quality video and audio equipment is readily available.
You also get out of jail.
...And sober up! :-D
The Color Purple bombed? Too bad.
I, myself, just cant wait til Disney’s Snow Woke and the Seven Ding-a-lings hits the screens.
And here’s another “Claudine Gay goes to Hollywood” Disney bomb.
dailymail.com-—Disney’s next biggest flop unfolds. Star Wars feminist director say her goal ‘is to make men uncomfortable’ Two-time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has declared ‘I like to make men uncomfortable. I enjoy making men uncomfortable,’ she said after winning the Oscar for a documentary about acid attacks against Pakistani women.’
Disney’s Claudine Gay clone, LucasFilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy, has been called by one movie fan, ‘legitimately the worst entertainment executive of my lifetime.’
Two-time Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has declared ‘I like to make men uncomfortable. I enjoy making men uncomfortable,’ she said after winning the Oscar for a documentary about acid attacks against Pakistani women.’
Movies made over $9 billion in 2023 at the box office. I mean it’s not like they’ve disappeared. There are new movies every week - some make money and some don’t and that has always been the case.
Even if they bomb at the box office, they go to VOD, then streaming, then physical sales plus soundtracks, etc. Many movies do make back their money, but sometimes it takes years in the marketplace to do so.
I’m happy to have them make money years later. :).
This one will more than make up for initial losses in streaming royalties from high school kids who are supposed to read the book.
I remember a Saturday Night Live skit featuring Billy Crystal as Fernando remarking how “fabulous “ oprah was in “The Colored People”
I was dragged to see this on Broadway (don’t ask) and was mystified why they decided to make a movie of it and thought it would make money.
Yes, a musical version of the 1980s film.
