Y’all have a problem, every year I have to report on all my income and where it came from.
Why are elected people special?

Of course it’s suspect. In fact, it’s prima facie evidence of massive corruption, not just suspicion.
I’ve seen it in our small town on the San Francisco peninsula. The developers got control of the city council and transformed the town from a sleepy little backwater into a mini-Manhattan.
I’m just saying I wouldn’t run for office where I need to disclose all my finances.
There are other ways to root out corruption.

Your tax returns are considered confidential records. Do you have to file financial disclosure records that are public information?

The Sunshine State already has the Sunshine Law. This goes waaaayyyy beyond that and certainly gets into the privacy of these individuals. Legislators need to rethink this horrible legislation. JMO

Why, you have 10s-of-millions from developers and mortgage banks squirreled away in offshore accounts?
If the honest people don’t run only the crooks will be running things. They enter government nowadays you know? Because ‘that’s where the money is’.

Headline is total BS.
Why should anyone have to declare an asset valued over $1000?
So I would have to declare guns, boat , riding lawnmower and jewelry on a public Government form ?

if you want to hang out a sign on your front door that says “Rob Me — I’ve got lots of juicy assets,” go right ahead.

No kidding. There’s no way I’d run for office if I had to provide full financial disclosure. And I’m as honest as they come.
Yup, especially for some of those positions that were volunteer. Better option would be mandatory disclosure of assets or asset groups valued over a certain amount, say $50- or $100-thousand. As well as any investments that increase by a certain percentage outside of average.
