Awe..and they cleaned up all that poop in the city for nothing...
“I’ll have more flexibility after the election and could even lend a hand!”
Move the chip factories and the young folk. Leave the old folk behind. Blow up everything on the way out.
Then what about Hong Kong?
And Biden saluted and said, “Yes sir!”
“During the summit Chinese communist leader Xi Jinping told Joe Biden to his face that China will take Taiwan at the time of their choosing.”
Not a chance would he say this to Trump.
They will take Taiwan without anyone firing a shot.
The people of Taiwan travel to China with regularity. Families are in both places. The rank and file, don’t care all that much.
Of course, the people running the country care.
China does not have the sea lift capacity to take Taiwan. Air superiority is not going to cut it. With the missiles on Taiwan, any sea invasion would be mostly at the bottom of the Straits before they got half way there. China would not risk their aircraft carriers or their ports—which would come under attack.
If the US got involved, we would lose carriers and likely the Long Beach, San Francisco, and Seattle Ports. The Panama Canal would be closed. Japan would be heavily attacked.
China would be shut off from middle eastern oil. The pipelines from Russia are so fragile it would take a couple of cruise missiles to destroy them. There are two of them.
China would lose its largest trading bloc. Their economy would go further into the tank. They would be left trading with Russia and India.
Does anyone think China is going to risk that?
All of this talk about China “taking” Taiwan by force is done to trigger people. Biden’s ineptness has made it more triggering. But the facts on the ground do not support China moving on a place like Taiwan for a long, long time.
Before you get too far down the rabbit hole, ask yourselves...”How would that happen and what would it look like?”
China doesn't need to take military action against Taiwan. It can economically strangle it to force compliance.
What Taiwan doesn't need is for us to fight a proxy war with China that would end up destroying it. There is zero chance of Taiwan winning a military conflict with China. And, there isn't a national interest that would involve sending US troops there to die.
Our problems with China are economic and have been brought on by corrupt politicians that have allowed the Chinese to screw us over. That most certainly needs to be corrected with a second Trump term.
China doesn't have to take anything - Taiwan is part of China, and recognized as such by the United States formally since 1983, and de facto since 1973.
I bet you think Hitler invaded Austria, too.
According to the Versailles Treaty, the Anschluss was forbidden.
Does anyone think China is going to risk that?
Yes
i’m beginning to think that even if they do permit Trump to run and win, that it’ll just delay Xi a while tii a new D POTUS is secured after Big T — assuming they even allow him to run at all — which I doubt.
We’ll see.
China will indeed take Taiwan and the world leaders will let them.
Xi takes one look at Biden and knows he can do anything he wants to America, any time he wants.
Off China began massing forces could we trust this government to inform us? I would expect China to do it before Biden leaves office.
We should have told China that the US recognition of Beijing as the sole legitimate government of China is based on the expectation that the Taiwan issue would be peacefully resolved.
Why? What would they gain?
Xi has his hands full with an aging and shrinking population. Their one child policy ruined their demographics. It will take, literally, decades to get that back.
Their manufacturing system is aging and declining—just look at all of the manufacturing that has moved to Vietnam.
The real estate market in China is devastated. There are cities that could hold a million people...empty and decaying because they overbuilt.
On the plus side, their economic reach for natural resources is astounding. They practically own Africa. They will own the REMs in Afghanistan. Their Belt and Road will tie project—although faltering—will be akin to the Silk Road. They will be able to reach India and Europe much more easily over land routes.
There are a lot of arm chair warriors running around making bold predictions. But we all know that war is a political act. Attacking Taiwan (and thus the US and Japan) would result in ALL of these economic situations being exacerbated or lost. We would shut down the sea lanes around south east Asia. China would literally starve without the ability to harvest their crops.
Wars are won or lost with logistics. China does not have the logistical power to project their will around the world. At least not yet.
In ten years...maybe. But ten years in political terms is a lifetime.
Trump is the factor that will determine their timing.
If Trump is not president, it will begin next year.
If Trump is president it will be delayed as long as he is in office.
Heard what? Everything was muffled... he was faceplanted in the pillow.
Where are they going to mass forces? And how are they going to move them? By ferry?
I don’t think you realize the anti ship missile defense system in Taiwan. Those ferries would be on the bottom of the Straits before they got half way. China does not have the sea lift capacity to create a beach head.
And what are they going to capture? Do you think the factories are going to be left standing if there is an “invasion?”
The is almost ZERO upside to a Chinese invasion.
The armchair warriors around here seem to think that China is a great Warfighting nation. When was the last time they fought a war? Do you think their troops and leadership have the skills to take on folks that have been fighting wars, pretty much non stop, for at least 20 years?
The Chinese are not stupid. They are patient. Their plans go out for decades.
I am not saying they will never attempt it...just not in the next ten years.
