To: Red Badger

As in most cases of crimes the cops are usually not present to stop the crime, only, sometimes, available to arrest the perp AFTER the crime has been committed.

In this case the homeowner had no way of assuring local police would arrive before someone in his house was endangered. What was he supposed to do, watch the harm being done and do nothing???

Yes. You’ve answered your own question. He was supposed to sacrifice his household and himself to the criminals. They will say he did not KNOW they would harm him. No standing?
