Good question.
This is one of the reasons it is a bad idea to talk to the police, especially if they are investigating a crime or crimes.
It is also a good reason to know your local police. If you develop a rapport with local police, they are less likely to lie to you.
Remember, police are people. They are not gods, or even angels. They are people and have temptations and difficulties as other people do.
The big difference is they have a considerable amount of power. There needs to be credible safeguards against the abuse of that power.
In large cities, there are very few safeguards.
Yea, that’s one of the most ignored laws on the books.
“Hey Joe, want to buy my old 12 gauge?”
“sure Sam. Let’s go to the State Police for permission.”
“Naah, just give me $100.”
“OK”
Background checks for private sales is a new law. My observation was before it went into affect.
This is the reason they get called Jack Booted Thugs.
This is but reason #110 why I resisted going LEO (the conflict of following orders vs keeping my job/pension).
Remember: This is TEXAS.
I am sure you are correct.
The law is a reason there were no private buyers.
No. The law didn’t exist when I went.
The prices the city was paying was above market price.
For instance, I sold a rusty old break action 16 mm shotgun for $100. Everything they were taking on was similar junk. Way overpriced.
There have been a flurry of gun turn-in events since the Biden administration pushed 1.5 trillion of newly created money out to political allies.
Not in Texas:

Private party sales appear to still be legal.
Sorry I posted that to you by mistake.
Maryland never met a civil right they wouldn’t infinite, especially gun rights.
They’ve had three laws struck f so own this year.
F so own = down.
Not surprised at all. San Antonio like Austin, Houston, Dallas, and El Paso are dim cesspools.

Gives a whole new meaning to "Let's Go Brandon!!!"
It's the law. The cops/feds/etc can lie to you any time, anywhere, about anything, for any reason or for no reason at all. Lying to them is a crime.
Is there really any such thing as a "good cop"?
The police will lie to you in a heartbeat if it suits them.
