PING!
Coming to nevaDUH!
it VIOLATES the one man one vote principle... not try and try again
They know that Trump wins any 3-way (or 4-way) race, REGARDLESS of the Democrat, as very few Trump voters will vote for the other options.
Ranked choice, effectively, means that the NeverTrumpers, plus Democrats get to add their totals together and use them against Trump. This has to be STOPPED.
Since when do we vote for 3 people?? This makes it a rigged election.
I do not understand why, with modern electronics, ranked choice results would require more than a few seconds to calculate, given one knows the “state” or all ballots cast.
The problem for Democrats is the tendency of the left to fracture into splinters. If all Ralph Nadar’s votes in Florida were counted for Al Gore, Gore would have been president in 2001. I am not the only one who noticed. The “cure” is to let splinters have their hissy fits and vote for the most left-wing green candidate, but still have their votes count for the Democrat if the race is close, and their votes can be decisive.
This is how Sarah Palin got beat in Alaska during the midterms. They put in Rank Choice Voting at the last minute.
You stop rank choice voting by making sure election to all offices is by a plurality. That is ho we have stopped it for my offices in Maine including Governor. In Maine RCV is used for federal offices as it is not enshrined in the constitution. Thus our debacle several years ago in the second district.
The Secretary of State for the time being shall, on the first Wednesday after the first Tuesday of January then next, lay the lists returned to the secretary’s office before the Senate and House of Representatives to be by them examined, together with the ballots cast if they so elect, and they shall determine the number of votes duly cast for the office of Governor, and in case of a choice by plurality of all of the votes returned they shall declare and publish the same.
The State Republican Party has voted to not use RCV in our Presidential Preference Primary next March.
RCV did not kick in for the last presidential race as Trump won the second district with 51.72% of the total votes and Biden won the first district with 59.46%. Combined Biden won the state with 52.53% of the vote.
I had not done a deep dive on our presidential vote totals and just noticed that 67,657 more votes were cast in our southern more liberal district.
This has triggered me to take a look at the numbers in prep 2024.
They put this bullshit in Alaska in 2020.
Seems like all the RINOs and Democrats won a large majority of the open seats.
We are trying to get it overturned but probably won’t happen in time for 2024.
