Freepers, please help me out with interpreting some recent political history.
As I recall Ron DeSantis briefly surpassed Donald Trump as favourite for the 2024 GOP nomination after DeSantis condemned Australia as being "off the rails" and like communist China.
Desantis' comments came at about the same time that Catholic former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott described Victoria Police in Melbourne, Australia, as being “……. lined up like stormtroopers …….” to stop a peaceful protest by “people who are sick and tired of (lockdown) restrictions which frankly are now becoming absolutely unreasonable”.
Who else sees a connection here?
I may be raising these issues of the reputational dangers of police excesses to Australia in Court on Tuesday week, when I go on trial in Melbourne as a result of both "sticking up for" (in police words) an aboriginal man and demanding police investigate The Cheif Commissioner Of Police Shane Andrew Patton for his criminal culpability in the false imprisonment of Cardinal George Pell.
May God save us from this crap.

DeSantis is a good governor. He was a shoo-in for president in 2028.
He shot himself in the foot by jumping in against Trump. He should have endorsed Trump and backed him openly. He would have secured his place in 2028 and if for some reason Trump had to withdraw in 2024, he would have been Trump’s heir apparent. As it is he has damaged himself unnecessarily.
What was interesting about their “quarantine camps” as they called them was they interviewed people and the people didn’t seem to mind.
Of course they could have selected certain folks.
But I remember them talking about how they get to just relax, workout, lay out in the sun, etc. not a care in the world.
People are so eff’d up.

No, no, it only happened in your imagination.
Not puzzling if you realize desantis isnt so great, is self focused and likely only seeming to do good things since FL legislature is doing the work and he just signs the paper. Also he walked into a decent situation so it wasnt so tough to govern an already decent situation. Desantis did a lot of harm to citizens during covid and also allowing illegals still into the state. He truly is not for the citizens. Sure he threw them a few scraps but not much.
